This is my first post in Suffolk and I'm tracking some Bowles some of whom disappeared and some who relocated to West Derby (Liverpool).

I have been looking at records on the IGI for William Smith Bowles 1811 b Alburgh, his wife Amelia 1821 b Fressingfield and his children Robert 1839 Elizabeth 1850.

The IGI records are unsourced but appear in both Norfolk and Suffolk counties. Can any suggest why this is please? I notice Depwade is on both Suffolk and Norfolk boards at Rootschat. Did/does Depwade cross over the border between both counties?

Later census records for Elizabeth and another brother William give birth place as Pulham (Magdn)

Would I also be right in thinking Alburgh is a different place from Aldeburgh and Aldborough?

Thanks.

Hi Indigogirl

I live a few miles from Depwade & Pulham Market also Pulham St Mary. They are in Norfolk. but fairly close to the border with Suffolk. Sometimes you'll find that registration districts span the borders so it is a good idea to look in both counties. For an example, Diss is right on the border of Norflok & Suffolk.

Have you seen this site?

Alburgh, Harleston is Norfolk. Aldeborough, Norwich is Norfolk.

Aldeburgh is on the Suffolk coast south of Lowestoft & Southwold

Thanks for your reply Wendy

I looked at the Suffolk fhs site yesterday after I posted here. I'm not sure whether thats a better bet than the Norfolk fhs one?

All those Aldburgh/boroughs... No wonder I couldnt make sense of it on the map!

I had seen the William Bowles marriage to Elizabeth Smith on the IGI. It seemed to be a sensible explanation of why his son became William Smith Bowles.

All those other baptisms on FreeReg are quite a find tho .
Thanks v much
