Marriage in WW2- Completed
« on: Saturday 29 August 09 07:01 UTC (UK) »

How do I go about checking if a marriage took place while someone was stationed at RAF Aldergrove in WW2?

Thanks

I would think that the marriage would appear in the civil marriage records like any other. Unfortunately the online index to civil registrations for N.I. only goes up to 1921. GRONI should have the marriage and also the local registrar/clergy should have a duplicate record of the marriage. www.groni.gov.uk

Thank you. I suppose what I meant was, will GRONI check if there's a marriage if you only have one name, a vague idea of the district and it could only have taken place within, say, a six month period during one year?

Hi.
If my memory serves me right, the GRONI, in Belfast, do a  search, I think they refer to it as a "particular search". When I made use of it, in the distant past, it was half the price of a certificate, with the option, if it was right, of obtaining a certificate for the rest of the price. If this service is still available, they search a few years either side of the given date.
The GRONI, when I used it, supplied a  brief typed outline of the event, just enough to verify if it is OK.
If you use Aghadowey's link to the GRONI and have look at the fees, if the service is still available it should be listed there.
Regards,
Dixie

Hi Dixie,

It's worth a try, although I only know the name of one of the couple (if indeed there was a marriage). However, it's a very short timespan, so I'll see that they say.

Thanks

Contacted GRONI, they were extremely helpful and were able to do a search for me.

I didn't realise they would do that, so thanks for your help DixieDee.
