JOY - Maulden
« on: Saturday 29 August 09 13:49 UTC (UK) »

Grateful if you could help me out.  Am trying to trace my family tree.  Have managed to get back to William Joy (born around 1813) who married a Sarah but I am struggling to find her surname so I can start tracing back on this side of the family.

Also managed to get back to William Joy (born around 1782) and Catherine Balls (and their 3 children - James, William and Ann) but then the trail goes cold again.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks - Carrie

I was just about to post the same two entries from the IGI when suzard beat me to it.  However, I can add that Sarah's parents are most likely William BUNKER and Sarah DIX who married at Westoning 31 Oct 1799.  Their other children (all baptised at Eversholt) are:

John Dix 31 Oct 1800
Thomas 3 May 1803
William 30 Jun 1805
Ann 28 Jun 1807
Elizabeth 31 Mar 1811 (Note same day as Sarah but they are probably not twins)
Mary 31 Oct 1813

On 1841 census in Ampthill is William & Sarah Joy (but transcribed as IVY), with their first 3 children Abel. Joseph & George (as were on the 1851 census). Abel the oldest was born 1834 so it would seem William & Sarah got married 1833 ish.  On 1841 living with them is Elizabeth Rimber or Rainbow - I cannot make out what it really is - she is age 9 & born before that marriage perhaps, daughter of Sarah.  Work out what that name is & you may have the answer.

.... who was baptised at Houghton Conquest on 29 Apr 1832 - just to Sarah Bunker.   Note Abel & Joseph Joy were both born Houghton.

Birth cert of one of younger children will confirm Sarah's maiden name

Thanks for all your help - I shall have a look into using ING - I have used the FamilysearchOrg bit of it but didn't manage to find out the information that you have supplied me with.
