Baptism in Diss or Attelborough
« on: Sunday 30 August 09 06:53 UTC (UK) »

I have a Samuel SMITH who was born/bp in Diss in about 1772. He married Sophia WRIGHT on 6 Nov. 1803 in Diss. Would someone have the means to check on this birth or baptism for me please? I would like to find his parents.

There was a suggestion he could have come from Attelborough – maybe he was born in one place and baptised in another?

Thank you
Jamie

There is ,
Samuel and a Sarah Smith baptised at Attleborough July 30th 1775, both children of Samuel and Sarah Smith.
Samuel Smith baptised Nov 16th 1776 son of Samuel and Mary Smith.
Samuel  Smith baptised Aug 17th 1777 son of Richard and Mary Smith.

Perhaps there wed certificate would help with age and fathers name...

I have come across  bn in one place and baptised in another many times...

Oh dear! With the name SMITH there are so many possibilities. Thank you Blue-Spirit – I would think that either of the first two you suggested could be right, because of the father's name being Samuel. I wonder how I can find out more about them – an 1831 census wouldn't help, I don't think, as I don't think it gives names.
