« on: Sunday 30 August 09 10:02 UTC (UK) »

not a look up, some advice please. have been on the Plymouth and Devon ro site and it does say a booking system operates.  is there a regular user of this ro that would know or does anybody know how necessary it is to book to use microfiche/microfilm?

I have never found the need to book at P&WDRO, BUT if you're travelling any distance then it would probably be a good idea to book just so that you are not wasting a lot of time if it does happen to be busy.

Hi

Don't forget that Plymouth Central library holds a lot of the Parish record fiches.  Also  Plymouth census returns on fiche 1841 -1901, and old local newspapers on microfilm.  There is no need to book a place - just come in .  Their opening hours are 9-7 Mon to Fri and 9-5 Saturdays.  The library staff are very helpful.
