Missing Parents

Thomas Cummings was born 1876 in Holme or Farleton, Westmorland
Annie Cummings born 1874 in Holme, Westmorland
Their parents were Thomas and Mary Ann Cummings.

On the 1881 census Thomas b 1876  and Annie b 1874 are living with their cousin James Croasdale a farmer and wood merchant in Colton,Lancashire.

On the 1891 census Thomas Cummings b 1876 is still living with cousin James Croasdale at Haverthwaite Farm Colton ,Lancashire;- No  sign of Annie

On the 1901 census Thomas is married to Emily, they have a farm in Greenodd, Lancashire.


Why are Thomas and Annie living with their cousin?

Does anyone know anything about their parents - Thomas and Mary Ann Cummings?
I can’t find a trace of Thomas and Mary Ann Cumming anywhere.

There is possible death registration for Mary Ann Cummings.

Dec 1877 Kendal, 10b/402
Mary Ann Cummings, age 28

Possibly Thomas just couldn't cope with bringing his children up?
