2nd opinion please, is the name Lawrence?
« on: Monday 31 August 09 02:19 UTC (UK) »

Coggeshall baptisms SEAX reference: Image #25 of D/P 36/1/2  There are two Peter Lawrence baptisms (I think) on this image, both dated 23 March 1679.

Elizabeth, Peter, children of Peter Lawrence, fifth entry on the second page of image 25, I'm pretty sure this is Lawrence, the surname being written slightly better than the following.

Peter Lawrance? (no other details attached so presumably an adult).  This entry is tucked over on the left hand side of the second page on image 25, two entries above a line drawn across the page.

Both entries appear to have been written in the same hand.

I would be very grateful if someone would take a look at the entry and give an opinion whether it is Lawrance, Lawrence or otherwise.  I tried to copy the two baptisms in order to reproduce the names in this entry but for some reason I'm prevented from doing so.  After a some mucking about I found a way of copying the two entries  Grin
There were a load of baptisms on that day/period, looks like they whipped the laggards in for baptism  Grin

Regards.

Mmm, that's difficult. Must admit the second one looks more like Lawsonne.

Hi keldon,

Thanks for replying.

I felt fairly confident that the first six letters were Lawran if you look at the r of Lawran it looks like the r in Peter i.e. a u or a thin w, it is the last two letters that I wasn't too sure of.

I think I'd better go back into that register and find some more of that writer's work and see if there are clues to be found, in the meantime if anyone else has an opinion I'd be grateful to have it.

Regards.
