Request lookup in 1841 census for Jane Trow, born about 1836/37 in Berriew, Montgomeryshire. She MAY have been baptized in Llanmerewig 23 April 1837. All I know of her family is that according to her marriage certificate, 1856, her father was Joseph Trow, a butcher.
Any help greatly appreciated, Dave

Hi Dave
The nearest that I can find are:
Park Street, Llanllwchaiarn, Newtown HO107/1440/5/10/12
John Jarman, 60, spinner Richd Jarman, 20, spinner Mary Trow, 20, weaver Jane Trow, 6 Elizabeth Trow, 4
All b. Montgomeryshire
and:
Rock Hall, Llandyssil HO107/1440/8/21/9
Trow Samuel, 41, Ag Lab Jane, 40 John, 17 David, 13, Ag Lab Elizabeth, 6 Jane, 4 Charles, 1
All b. Montgomeryshire
I'm not sure about these. The only Josephs found so far are a 20 yr old farmer's son in Church Stoke and a 58 year old Tailor (sp. Taylor) in Pool.
Have you found her on the 1851?

I think yours is a servant in Llandinir on the 1851 HO107/2498/9/11, while the two that I've found on the 1841 are still with their parents

Hi Gadget, I think the first one is most likely - it's a shame the 1841 didn't give relationships. I have been unable to find Jane's parents or any siblings. The only reference to family was on her marriage certificate which gave her father as Joseph Trow, butcher.
I agree with your suggestion for the 1851. Over the years her stated ages vary - assuming the 1841 and 51 are correct, 1841 6, 1851 18, 1861 26, 1871 32, 1881 44 (the last 3 as Jane Renfrey 1861 in Berriew and the 1871 and 1881 in Aberystwyth). She, my gg grandmother, remains an enigma.

Hi Dave
i've been looking at the Montgoemry baptisms and the only one I can find in that time period is a William bpt 1838 in Berriew. I can give you the details if you wish. However, I'm tempted to think that she might not have been Jane Trow at birth
The first one, with mother Mary, appears in the 1851 with both Mary and a father Aaron.
Given that both the 1841s can be accounted for in 1851 plus your Jane - i.e. 3 on 1851, 2 on 1841, I think that we have to look for either a very bad mistranscription (I've looked !) or a possible different surname
As I said, no Joseph Trow, butchers are in evidence in 1841 or 1851
