Thanks Tati, thats them alright on the 1871 and 1861, so it gives me further pieces to the puzzle.

The 1871 also gives an 8 year old son George in the family, but IGI's suggested birth year for him was 1861. also mother Elizabeth.

As stated above by the way, I am questioning whether Elizabeth could have also been known as Louisa because of Harriett baptised in 1860, or would this Louisa have been the wife (or partner) of another Cuckfield George Packham?

Well, Packham seems to be a common name around there!

Eliza seems to be Elizabeth L in 1881 but she married as Eliza (Sep 1857 Cuckfield: George Packham - Eliza Smith)

There are several George/Elizabeth Packham couples, and also one George/Louisa couple, seen here in 1881:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=21881254
RG11/1060 32 11
The 1871 census shows them with a 9 year old daughter Harriett.

Another question on the family answered, again thanks to you Tati.

Finally, I am pushing my luck over William's spouse, Mary Jane Packham nee Parnell.
I agree that this should really be on the Hants section of Rootschat, but then I would then have to repeat all that has gone before.

Sisters Ellen Kean Parnell (Husband William Boorman) and MARY JANE PARNELL (husband William Packham) were both baptised Saint Thomas, Portsmouth, Hampshire in the early 1850s,  and had parents Samuel Parnell and Caroline nee Bishop.

Family legend has it that Samuel was both a sea captain and a hotel owner, but if he had that background, I cannot see him agreeing to his daughters marrying a bricklayer or an ag lab.  I therefeore need to check Samuel out on the 1851 or 1861 censuses to verify his age, place of birth and of course, occupation.

Roy , this is what I was told of my ancestors. That a Captain Parnell lost all his wealth by his sisters squandering away his money while he was at sea . He apparently owned 2 or 3 hotels on the Brighton front  and had to sell them to repay debts run up by his sisters. How true I do not know but that is the story.

In 1871, Samuel (a mariner merchant service) is staying with his brother Christopher Parnell, 47, Master Mariner Merchant Service

In 1891, he's a general labourer, living at Newcastle on Tyne with Caroline.

The Maddick connection ties in with a local marriage, for Jane was probably a Jennifer Muddick who married a Samuel Parnell in Alverstoke, Hants in May 1820.

The unreadable Devoran on the 1851, could it be an abreviated Devonport? [Devonpt]
The Belvue Terrace property in 1841 housed 11 of them.  Wonder whether it was a small guest house?

Thank you for all the information on the Parnell's.
I am so gratefull that at last there is someone else
that has been able to answer some things for me.
I still do not know  though were this all ties in with
my family tree. Just one of the stories I was told.
I know it was from my maternal side. My maternal
grandfather was William Henry Packham, his father
same name according to marriage certificate.
My Grandfather married Winifred Daisy Voice.this I
know. Her father was Baleh Voice married to Jane
Cooper.Though my mother thinks ther is a Cooper-Pullen
somewhere. But I have not found the Parnell connection
yet. Maybe oneday. all the best Carole Anne

Re-reading the information about Samuel Parnell .I had already seen this on Ancestry and census's before on many occations also the Packhams from Cuckfield etc. But I was unable to make any of the connections with my Grandfather William Henry Packham especialy when I saw he was born in Biddenden. Now you have both helped me so much  you have no idea how good this all feels. I am so happy. thanks

Roy and Tati, I have tried to look up the 1891 census and even with your RG info was still not able to find what you found as Ancestry say name's  not found . I know I have seen them before though .
