MUSSELWHITE - Britford and Downton, Wiltshire
« on: Monday 31 August 09 10:34 UTC (UK) »

My 4G grandfather was George Musselwhite who married Susanna Goff (or Goss) in Britford, Wiltshire on 28 December 1778. George was buried at Britford on 26 April 1822.

The earliest Musselwhite baptisms at Britford are William (12 April 1760), James (12 April 1762), Mary (2 August 1766) and Sarah (15 April 1769). Their parents were William Musselwhite and Edeth Mussell who married in Downton on 14 August 1757.

I have been unable to find a baptism record for my George Musselwhite. However, from his burial record and the Downton Settlement Certificate for William and Edeth (WRO ref: 1306/115) I know that he was born about 1757 and was their eldest child.

I do not know where William and Edeth are buried. However, my real dilemma is which William Musselwhite of Downton is the father of George?

The following are possibilities:

8 June 1726 - son of John and Ann
23 June 1728 - son of John and Jane

There is a burial of a William Musselwhite in Downton on 22 June 1728 but no age or parents are given.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Nigel

Could a moderator perhaps move this thread to the Wiltshire board?
