Pool Family Ladymead Birmingham (Dowler/Griffin/Phillips)
« on: Monday 31 August 09 12:43 UTC (UK) »

I had hoped the release of the 1911 Irish census would solve many mystery's for me but it thrown up more questions than answered.

Daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Pool..................Annie Louise Pool 1871. Piano Forte Tutor (Birm) .
Daughter Bessie Minna 1887.(Birm)
Married Bessie's father Frederick Dowler 1888 (Birm)

1891 census Annie (Musician)  and Minna back to name of Pool in Hull, Frederick remains a mystery.

1911 Kilkenny Ireland, Annie Louise partnering John Linehan 1882 born Cork Ireland.
John Linehan was a Concert Promoter and Travelling Showman.
Found 2 more daughters with them Minna born 1897 England and Annie 1907 Dublin.
The family were touring in their caravans with other Show people.

Eldest daughter Bessie, her husband Tom Brennan, 2 children Lydia and Mary Bessie are not on census although they were definitely in Ireland touring with their Travelling Show.

1914 Annie died of meningitis,  Wood St Ladymead, her nephew W. Griffin was present at birth. John Linehan listed as Travelling Showman on cert.
W.. Griffin son of Mary Pool, Annie's sister.

No one in the family knew of Annie's other 2 daughters so wondering what happened to them and John Linehan after Annie's death, can anyone throw any light on this family.
Regards Jackie

Hello Jackie
There's a Wood St. in Ladywood B'ham,I've never heard of Ladymead.
Could this be a mistranscription?
The 1912 Electoral Rolls show a William Griffin living at 18 Wood St.Ladywood.
1920 Wiiliam & Mary Griffin same address.
Mary may have been there in 1912 but as women didn't get the vote until 1919 she won't be listed.

Hi Jim,
Many thanks for your reply, you're quite right re Ladymead being Ladywood, it was an error on my part I must have been on auto pilot.
Could you clarify was there a William and also another William with Mary living at the address, or was it just William and Mary?
I have 2 William Griffin's, one born 1891 (not sure on that one) and also William Wood Griffin born 1855 married to Mary Pool Annie Louise's eldest sister.
From what you're saying from the electoral role it's sounding like Annie Louise came back from Ireland and moved in with William and Mary...and that's where she died.
Wonder where John Lineham and her children were.
Once again many thanks for you time.
Kindest regards Jackie.

There's only one William. On his own in 1912 & with Mary in 1920.Mary may have been there but she won't be listed.
John Lineham isn't listed anywhere in B'ham. He may have had long term commitments & had to travel. The children may have been with their mother.
