 Smiley Roll Eyes

Hi;

Seeking help with research of ancestors who may have an origin in Ireland.
I found descendants in today's California area but they have no knowledge
of their origin but a good guess is Ireland., found as;-

1860 US/Cen LeRoy,Mower Minnesota;
Robert Hedafint age 50,(b) 1810 Ireland, 'Farmer'emmigrated Huh
Mariah                "    51  (b) 1809     "        Spouse.
Robert         "      "    19 (b)   1841  Minn     son
John            "                 (b)   ??       ??         son
William         "                 (b) 1861   Minn      son

'Robert Headfint,age 33yrs enlisted Union Army Civil War as Private on
5 Oct/1861.served Comp/D Minnesota Bracketts Cavalry Battalion,
mustered out 1 June/1866;

Another family;
Robert Hedefan (b) Ire,age 27 Tenant Farmer,Naturlized;
Mauah Hedefant (b) Ire age 28 , wife
Eliza Hedefant (b) Illinois age 1yr
Margaret Hedefant (b) Minn,age 1mth
This census was taken 6Oct,1857 Minn, Mower #218
I think this is all the same family just dates & ages are out for Robert on '1860 census; son Robert (b) 1841 then age 19yrs on 1860 would be correct and  there was a young 'Robert'age 18yrs who also enlisted in Civil War ;

This is all such a mystery and I would be grateful and appreciate any help to sort this family ou,,,
Of note I do know 'William Hedifant'(b)1861 Minn,married 'Cora Johnston  they lived in Webster City,Iowa and are the
'Grt /'Granparents' of the current families in California.

The original "Robert & Maria lived with son Wm & Cora and Robert applied for a Civil War Pension in 1885 as an 'invalid',,,,

Kind regards;

Hi Janey,

Have you considered obtaining the pension file?  It looks like there was also a widow's pension in 1887 Iowa.  These records could be quite useful, although pricey.

PS.  What I'm seeing in the census:

1860:  Robert (30), Maria (29), Eliza (4), Margaret (2) in Le Roy, Mower, Minnesota.
1870:  Robert (40), Maria (42), and William (10) in Le Roy
1880:  Robert (50), Maria (51) and William (19) in Le Roy

HI CHERYL;

Thank you for your reply, I did check the pension files and found Mariah
had applied for a widow's in 1887,,, I'm guessed "Robert" had died by
then,, I'm looking for the 'cert' number to send for a copy of it ,,,,,

You see where my problem is with the '2'Censu & '2' different spelling
of the name and Robert's age is different,,, I wondered if this was two'
different families,,,,

Appreciate your help,,,,
Kind regards;

Hi Janey,

Regarding his death cert, that would likely be in the pension file.  For Maria to receive a widow's pension, she would have had to prove he was deceased.  Footnote has added some of these online, but it's described as only 1% complete.  To my knowledge, the others are not available online and have to be ordered from the National Archives.

Regarding the census, I'm not seeing the one you list for 1860.  As far as I can tell, the 1860 census for Le Roy has 10 pages, and there's only the one family listed.

HI CHERYL;

Thank you so much for your help with my query,,, I checked out the
websites you gave and have now ordered the complete 'Pension File'
cost $75.00 US but I'm sure it will be worth it,,can hardly wait,,,,

The wait time is from 49-120 days depending on how much searching is involved,,, so I will certainly let you know when it arrives,,,,,

Appreciate all your efforts on my behalf,,,,

Hi Janey,

Pricey, eh?  I was lucky to order mine before the price increase, especially considering it was a large file and would now be about $130!

Anyway, good luck, and I'll be interested in hearing how you make out!
