Trisholdhams' Scavenger Hunt....Everyone Welcome To Join In.
« on: Tuesday 01 September 09 09:33 UTC (UK) »

Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt.........it's short but sweet and I'm sure you can help.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Barbara

                                           *******************************

Looking for James George Grace's Baptism or birth. born abt 1814 St Johns Westminster - according to the census.

He died in Camberwell workhouse 28/8/1896 age 82 - he was a Blacksmith, also cannot find his marriage to Charlotte Oaks (Oakes) she was born in Liverpool.

1851 census - James & Charlotte were living at 15, Princess Bldg Kenington Lambeth.
First son born was George Grace 1847 in Edmonton.

I have found them on 1861, 1871, then after that Charlotte & James were living apart.
Charlotte died 1891 in West Derby.

James 1891 census in Camberwell workhouse.

I thought maybe the Camberwell Workhouse could give me some information on James birth details, but as yet I have not been able to get any information.

Can any one help me please, would love to know more about James Grace. I can go right back on Charlotte Oakes family, but nothing on James Grace.

If James was a blacksmith it might be worth entering his details here

FreeBMD doesn't show that James has a second name - ie just James Grace. Is your find from A* Toni?
FreeBMD also doesn't show a wife called Charlotte (anything) on that marriage record.

Makes one wonder if he was married to someone else and therefore didn't marry Charlotte as I can't find a marriage for James and Charlotte.

Is this James G (with Mary Ann, Elizabeth or Eliza) on the 1851? If so, it may rule him in or out.

There does appear to be a few other marriage records for a James GRACE around that time - but, of course none have a Charlotte!!  Roll Eyes

He may have lied about his age in the hope of getting a more lenient sentence!

Hi,
I am having trouble answering you all as my computer keeps logging off.

James Grace seems to live all over the place in each census, and Charlotte was born 1822 Liverpool.
