CLIMIE family..can you help please?
« on: Tuesday 01 September 09 19:24 UTC (UK) »

Would like to find out more about Jane CLIMIE & her family who was born 4 Nov 1893 Wigtown.

She later came to New Zealand where she married the Rev. William BROWN.

Any help whatsoever will be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Tiffaney

Hi Tiffaney

It would appear CLIMIE is not her maiden name - rather that is the name of her first husband, the Reverend Angus Mathieson CLIMIE.

http://www.presbyterian.org.nz/archives/Page155.htm

Rev Angus Mathieson CLIMIE b 2 Jan 1887, died 21 Sep 1934
married  on 11 March 1919 to Jean who was  b 4 Nov 1893
After Angus' death, Jean remarried the Rev. W BROWN on 7 Jan 1941.

Angus was in NZ by 1912, at the time of his 1919 marriage to Jean, he was probably in the Lower Hutt area.

Jean and Jane (and Janet) are quite interchangeable in Scotland usage & records.

Cheers

Further...

http://www.presbyterian.org.nz/archives/Page151.htm

Reverend Reginald William BROWN b 23 Jun 1903, died 25 Dec 1982 in Oamaru
married 1) Jean, widow of Rev AM CLIMIE, on 7 Jan 1941
married 2) Margaret (Peg) on 28 Nov 1970
In   1941 he was in Ashburton - his first wife (Jean) died in Ashburton.

The NZ BDM site:
http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/search/

Shows that in 1919, Angus Mathieson CLIMIE married Jane RENNIE

In 1919, Jane.Jean RENNIE would be approx 26 years old if she were born 1893.

The NZ marriage printout which costs NZ$20 (as opposed to the certificate) should tell you her parents names and occupation (if it was stated & recorded) , and confirm she was a spinster when she married  - at age 26, it's concievable she may have been a widow then too, by an even earlier husband that Rev CLIMIE.

http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/Faq/
http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/PaymentsAndProducts/

Without knowing her father's name at least, and preferably both parents names - it's impossible to say if any Jane/Jean RENNIE b abt 1893 on the Scotland Census 1901 is her. I see only one apparent: Jane age 8 b Kirkinner Wigtown  on the 1901 Census in Sorbie Wigtownshire with a father named Alexander and mother named Jane.

We don't even know for example, if she was even in Scotland in 1901. Perhaps she came to NZ with her entire family prior to that time.

Scotlands People has 2 BIRTH possibilities (neither one of which is in Kirkinner district either)
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Jane* RENNIE 1893 in Wigtownshire
Jean* RENNIE 1894 in Wigtownshire

If born Nov 1893, she may have been registered early 1894. You might want to take a gamble, that one of these  may reveal a birth date of 4 Nov 1893.  You can purchase SP credits for GBP6  (approx NZ14) which gives you 30 credits - obtaining the 2 certificates would cost 12  credits (6 credits each).

Ambly,

Thank you Ambly for all the wonderful information you have very generously spent your time looking up for me.

Thought because I had no idea who her parents were, I would be most unlikely to find much so your postings come as a hughe thrill.

Thank you very much & appreciate your added suggestion re Scotlands People etc.

Go well,
