Wondered if anyone else researching the Cheal/cheale family in Sussex, Brighton, Alfriston, Litlington. My Great Grandfather was George Robert Cheal.
I have been fortunate in finding a fair bit of info on that line if anyone else is looking.
Anyone info on the Verralls of Sussex?

Hi there hethmar
Verrall / Verrell is a very common name here in Sussex.
What location in Sussex are you interested in?

Brilliant Chris, I had them on the 1851 and 1852 in Sussex (the year my Great Grandad George was born) but not the earlier one.
Nothing on Naomi's family? I have looked at some other records sent to me by a chap who had been researching the Cheals of Sussex for 20 years (lucky, eh?) and he says Naomi was born in Litlington/West Dean - they married in 1840 in South Malling.
This gets so obsessive doesnt it. Only been at it a month and horrified how 2 names become 4 become 8, become 16 ......................... Still trying hard to find mother's side from Norfolk.

Just to add John Thomas must have died young as I find Naomi and the children living in Rotherhithe where she is shown as a widow aged 40. Brings whole lives alive to you all this, doesnt it.

Hi again
Yep, it sure gets to you - you always want to find out more.
I have lots of Verralls / Verrells in and around Lewes - any indication from the marriage certificate who Naomi's parents are.
Or any other info on Verrall or Cheale that I can verify for you.
See the first few messages (sticky, so they stay there) on the Sussex Board concerning archives I possess at home.

Chris, I can get back to George Cheale born about 1730 married Ann Rowley 9 March 1752 Westdean.
If you find anything earlier than that it would be great.
Many thanks for the help.

Hi
Here they are on the 1841 Census
HO107/ 1118/13/ Folio 1 – 6, The Parish of West Dean, Sussex.
VERRALL Sander, 45, Ag Lab, born in Sussex Jane, 40, born in Sussex George, 12, Ag Lab, born Sussex Ann, 10, born Sussex Sarah, 5, born Sussex.
At the present moment, I can not locate them on the 1851 census - Sander aged 55 is not listed - so presume deceased, there is a Jane aged 50 with a daughter Charlotte aged 20 (where did she come from); there is a George aged 23 married with a family but no Ann aged 20 or Sarah aged 15 - so can not really put the family together; only possibles as yet.

Very many thanks, thats very kind of you.
I am getting use to the census and other records not being too accurate - found my Great Grandad on mother's side had a "housekeeper" aged 2! Later found on other side my Great Grandfather aged 32 when he had a son of 22. When I look at actual paperwork could see it was actually 52.
The classic one was a transcribed address in Thadwete. Naturally having spent ages searching for this Thadwete I got a copy of the census and could see after a lot of fiddling about that it wasShadwell!!
So many thanks, hope it is not taking up too much of your time, but I am very grateful.

Hi
It keeps me out of mischief, plus all the archives are here next to my computer or in the family library in the next room. - Mostly it is just a case of swinging my computer chair around or pushing it across the room.
You have to remember the 1841 census was rounded down to the nearest 5 years - so you could possibly add another 4 years to some of the ages; except children under 13 who should show their actual age.
I do not have much info before 1800, but I do visit the Record Office in Lewes on a regular basis.
