A Miller of Morcott
« on: Wednesday 02 September 09 10:22 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help with information about John SEWELL born 1825 at Langham, Rutland, son of Christopher Williamson SEWELL and Mary STEVENS
I believe that he became a miller and around 1846 married Mary (surname not known) who was born around 1824 at Cottesmore, Rutland.
John SEWELL is shown to be a corn miller at Morcott in 1881.
He died in 1888 and there were no children.
Mary was living at Workhouse Lane, Morcott in 1901 living on Parish Relief
and she died soon after the census was taken.

Theres an Oakham District marriage for a John Sewell in 4Q1853 - page transcribed as 359, which puts it out of the expected range in that Q for Oakham

Looking at the image it could be Page 559   .... which shows just 3 people.

Marriages Dec 1853

Jackson  George    Oakham  vol 7a page 559
WILLIAMSON  Sarah     Oakham  7a 559
Woodward  Mary Kitchen     Oakham  vol 7a page 559

so this would mean they married quite some time after being 'seen' together on the 1851 census ?

pity there was no issue - a child's Birth Cert would have confirmed her maiden name ....

I think I can see her in 1841 Emphingham, and also this IGI entry - but its not COTTESMORE - altho less than 5Km apart on the map .... maybe she grew up in Cottesmore, albeit born and baptised in Empingham ?
