New problem with taskbar. Please Help! COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 02 September 09 14:04 UTC (UK) »

I have a new problem with taskbar which I can't seem to resolve.

No open programme buttons are visible on taskbar.  Right now there is nothing  on taskbar to show that IE and Outlook Express are both open.
I know I am on-line 'cos I'm typing this!  If I minimise this all I see is desktop and empty taskbar.
If I were to open another prog this one would appear to be closed, it would disappear from view.  To pull it back I have to open Task Manager and click it, still won't show on taskbar though.
I could have several programmes open but still nothing on taskbar.
This has been the case since I switched on today.  Shut down several times; tried System Restore - no change.  Un-ticked and re-ticked everything in taskbar properties.

What's happened?  How do I put it right?

Any help please much appreciated.  Soon as poss please, I am going mad!

Hello Susan

I hate all this computer stuff too.

Anyhow, hope I can help.  You don't say what you are operating, XP, Vista or something else.

I run Vista.

Right click on the taskbar

A box should appear

Make sure the "Keep the taskbar oon top of other windows" is ticked.

On my computer all the boxes are ticked except "Auto hide the Taskbar"

Hi Steven

I'm running XP.   Usual things are ticked.    Taskbar is there, so are Start, Quick Launch, clock etc.

It's just that open programmes are not showing as buttons on taskbar as they should (and were until this morning).

Not until I go into Task Manager can I see the programmes that are open.

Maddening!

Thanks for suggestion anyway.

I can't remember XP

It's right click then 'Properties' not 'task manager' on Vista

What you need to do I think is access the 'properties' within the box that pops up.   Then check the boxes.

Sorry is as much as I can offer

Steven
Thanks for trying to help.

Finally found solution on microsoft after hours of searching.  Someone else posted problem 2 weeks ago.  Downloaded a fix which has sorted it for now.  Hope it holds!

Thanks again.

Quick note

Myself and many many others have had enough of Vista.   Keep XP as long as you can I would.

Can't get XP any more so will be waiting for Windows7.

Glad it sorted.
