When I switched my computer on a few minutes ago, running XP Pro on Acer Laptop, Virgin Broadband, their Anti virus and firewall, I was very surprised to find that the found new hardware wizard was running, trying to instal a device which called itself net. I have installed nothing on this machine for several weeks, and am wondering what this is about. Any ideas please?

any clues in Device Manager - owt marked with a yellow exclamation mark ?

Pulled any cables and reseated them of late ?

An unknown device has appeared in network adapters. No cables have been accidently pulled lately.Have had a flood of windows updates to such an extent that I had accumulated 32 restore points resulting in 3gb of junk, which I cleared yesterday.

Further to previous, may have cured it (I hope), created restore point, uninstalled device, then rebooted. No apparent ill effects (so far)
