Dally/Dalley/Dallow Broadlays Ledbury
« on: Thursday 03 September 09 08:53 UTC (UK) »

I have inherited materials from my mother & aunt related to their family history search for the Dally/Dalley family. I am descended from Thomas Dallow/Dally/Dalley, bap. 1812 in Ledbury, through his son Benjamin, who was born in Droitwich, Worc in 1853. The Internet has opened up many more possibilities since they began their research but records can be very confusing.
Right now I am trying to find credible connections between various Dallys. Can anyone tell me what Broadlays, Ledbury, refers to? Most of my ancestors seem to have been in Homend or Bye Street & I cannot find anything about this Broadlays which is mentioned in some records.
I have several questions but this will do to start. Thanks.

Been doing some more reading & thinking & may have found a possible explanation for Broadlays, Ledbury. For a start, the references are all in transcripts online so I have not seen the originals, so the spellings may differ. Given that, I have found an Ordnance Map of the Ledbury area online, & there is mention of 2 possibilities: Bradlow, which is to the north of the town (name possibly derived from Broad Leys) & The Leys (pronounced Lays)(I assume this is a pathway, road or farm). Both places are fairly close to the Homend in Ledbury so it is quite possible for the families to be closely connected.
