Yes, that's my tree. Charles Birnie isn't right, but you can see how it all goes from the tree. In the meantime, I'm going to check I've not got webbed feet or too many fingers and toes given the potential for incest in that tree!

Elisabeth Sandison who married James Gardiner dies in 1903. Elisabeth McKay(Sandison, MS Gordon) gave birth to Ann McKay in 1923 so it maybe isn't the same person... quite possibly the same famliy though.

Hi Sheila
Elizabeth Gordon's two daughters, Elizabeth Sandison (b. 1820) and Ann McKay (b. 1823), half sisters with different fathers, seems to be the lines down to William Gardiner and Maggie Birnie.
What that makes them in terms of x cousin x removed (with the half sister angle) I am useless at figuring out

Oh my word! I'm going to have to draw this one out on paper (very difficult with sixteen fingers on each hand and webbed hands to boot!)

So, if I've got this right, my father's paternal g. grandmother is also his maternal g.g. grandmother! No wonder I couldn't figure it out!

That's my take on it also
Correction: On Maggie's line, Elizabeth Gordon was your father's ggg grandmother:
Elizabeth Gordon - GGG Ann McKay - GG Annie Gordon - G Maggie - mother

Well, that was some search!
I have another headache in my family tree if you're interested.
On my mother's side, her grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Jones was (according to family history) disowned by her family for marrying beneath her.
All I know from anecdotal evidence is that she came from Liverpool and her father was a builder. My old aunt tells me that the builder named some streets after his daughters and that the family had servants.
After much searching I tracked down the marriage certificate which has just arrived. It gives her father as William. I want to get her birth certificate but cannot order it without the number.
I know she was born in 1862 (marriage cert and 1911 census) and she celebrated her birthday on March 17th. How can I get the number of her birth cert to orderit?

Sheila
Might be good to start a new thread on Elizabeth Ann Jones and keep this one on the Scottish side as is.
Was Elizabeth Ann born and raised in Liverpool, maybe the Lancashire board would be where to put this post www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,21.0.html .....I'll follow you there
By starting a new post you also give people the chance on RC to jump in an help, otherwise Elizabeth Ann might get a little bit lost on this thread!
