Shocked Hello. Shocked

Could someone please help me with a family in Caledon, Cardwell, Peel County, Ontario?
They are John Fleetham born 1826 England, his wife Jane born 1830 England, children were William and Mary Hannah born England between 1849 and 1856? probably.

Are there any further details please?

1861 the family is in Toronto, Peel.  All shown as W. Meth for religon, all born England.  They live in a 2 storey frame house.

It indicates that everyone was born Ontario and they are of Irish descent.  Census are prone to errors.

I only found John and Jane's marriage yesterday , 2 of Jane's sisters went to Canada so thought she may ave done too.

Jane was the sister of my "xGgrandad Johnson Nicholson.

Grin Irish Huh  they must be kidding, they were both Yorkshire born Cheesy

Someone said they moved over there in 1856 but not followed this up yet.

I thought I would start nearest this and work forward Wink

So anything yer happen to come across , don't go out of yer way or owt though Wink

I only have England & Wales censuses so much appreciated Grin

Dunno how the BMD thing works there , over ere there is an index right upti 2005 I think it is.

Canada has much stricter privacy laws.  Every province has their own set of rules about when they will release data.  This link explains what Ontario has released to the public so far Ancestry.ca records lag by a few years.

John died, age 77, April 28, 1903, residence Caledon East, Peel County, labourer, cause - general disability 4 years
Jane died, age 74, Feb 3, 1905, residence Cardwell Jct, Peel County, cause - old age 2 months.  Informant J.A. Donaldson

William Fleetham,27, of Caledon East s/o John and Jane Fleetham married Isabella Filmer,21, of Georgetown d/o Samuel and Maria  Sept 28, 1882 at Georgetown.  Brother John, of Caledon East was a witness.

I found the birth of 3 children and the marriage of 4.  If you find other names as you check for this couple in the Canadian census let me know and I can look for them.  Sometimes records are missing or mistranscribed in such a way that they don't immediately pop up.

Maria Jane b. 30 Dec 1883 Halton County.  Father railway labourer
John Wellington b. 12 Dec 1887 Peel County, Father Section Foreman resident Cheltenham
Mabel Isabella b. 18 Feb 1892 Halton County, Father Section Foreman (RR) residing Burlington

Maria Jane, born Glen William, 20, of Burlington married Robert Wylie,20, of Galt, barber, 3 Feb 1904 at Galt, Waterford County.

John Wellington,32, of Freeman, mechanic, married Ellen Maud French,22 b. Northhampton England
24 Dec 1919 at Burlington, Halton County

Married under Margaret Mabel Isabella,22, born Freeman, Ont, living Freeman, married Cecil Head,22, basket maker 1 Jan 1914 at Burlington, Halton County.  Brother John Wellington a witness.

William Nelson,29, clerk married Lena May Snowdon,27 23 April 1913 at St. Mary's RC Church Hamilton, Wentworth County

William Fleetwood of 337 Brant St. Burlington, Ont (resident there 20 years) died March 10, 1930 at 79.  He was born Jan 23, 1851 Yorkshire, Eng.  worked as a railroad labour foreman.  Immigrated 1855.  cause of death - gout, nephritis and a contributing factor was gangrene(senile).  Informant was his daughter Mable M I Fleetham of 1131 1/2 Common E Hamilton, Ont.  Burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

Williams's children married too late, except for Maria, for any children's births to be recorded unless it also involved a death.  There are some Fleetwood deaths around Burlington, Caledon that have no parents names recorded or anything else to identify who they belonged to.


Mildred Ellen, premature stillborn, died March 25, 1924 at  Burlington.  d/o John Fleetham and Ellen Maud.  burial Pinewood Cemetery.  His occupation - fireman(?)
Children for robert wyle and Maria Jane wre
Doris wylie b. april 11, 1906 at Galt.  Father barber
Nearissa Eldiva Wylie b. July 31, 1904 Galt.  This was a delayed birth registration of June 25, 1963.  N. Bonar(?) lived in Parksville at the time of application.

Eliza Sarah b abt 1857 daughter of John and Jane Fleetham at age 20, resident of Caledon married Thomas Clark,24, farmer, on Feb 20, 1877 at Caledon, Peel County.  Her brother William was a witness.

1891 and 1901 census they are resident in Toronto Township and in 1911 it is referred to as York North.  The children from these census are John(1879), Minnie(1881), Frederick(1886), Albert(1889) and Mabel(1894).  Profession of Thomas - farmer as well as sons John and Albert.

No BMD found for John James.

The following records all show Eliza Fleetham and Thomas Clark as parents

Minnie Jane Clark's birth was registered by her brother John James August 1, 1947.  Proof was his statement and family bible.  Born January 22, 1881 at Caledon East, Peel County.
Minnie Jane, 30, married Albert Henry Robinson, 27, Farmer, October 25, 1912 at the Village of Ballantrae, York county.  Witness was her sister Mabel M.E. Clark

Thomas F. b. Jan 26, 1886

Albert E. b. Dec 8 1888
Albert W., 25, Farmer married Myrtle J. Pryne, 25 on Nov 26, 1913 at Lennoxville, York

There is a birth registered for Margaret Ellen b. 3 July 1894 Toronto township, Peel County.
Mabel Margaret, 21, married John Ross Hood Oct 18, 1916 at Stouffville
Mabel Eleanor Hood (nee Clark) of Con 8 Whitechurch, Village Ballantrae, York County died March 26, 1933 at 38.  She was born July 5, 1894 Erindale.  Cause of death acute nephritis.  Burial Church Hill Cemetery.

Mary H. daughter of John and Jane Fleetham married under Mary Ann to John Stephenson(25) born Yorkshire, Eng., farmer s/o Edmund and Tamar.  Married Feb 12 1874 at Caledon East.  Brother William was a witness.
1891 census they have the following children Edmund(1875), Eliza J.(1876), Tamar(1880), William(1882), Maggie J (1885), Clara(1888), Albert(1890).

Late birth registration for Edmund b. Jan 6, 1875 Caledon.  Registered 28 aug 193?.  John George Fleetham of Caledon East, uncle to Edmund made a statement as to his knowledge of the birth.  Stated he was on intimate terms with the family, was 11 years 4 months old at his birth and saw the child 3 days after his birth and believed he was born on the stated date and at the stated place as his mother was the nurse in attendance.
Edmund married at 23 to Mary Moorehead(21) Jan 1, 1898 at Milton.  He was a Section Foreman
Edmund married at 32 to Mary Ellen Nixon(21) Sept 25, 1907 at Barrie, Simcoe County.  He was a widower, born Cardwell Junction, a railroad worker and mother was given as Mary H. Fleetham.

Eliza Jane married at 19 to Joseph Peacock(26), carpenter October 6, 1896.
Eliza Jane Peacock of Milton, Trafalgar township, Halton County born Dec 1, 1876 Caledon Township died at 56 October 5, 1933 from bronchitis, pneumonia and cellulitis.  Informant Joseph Peacock, husband.  Buried Milton.

Tamar Sephenson(20) married Thomas McJannette(24), a salesman on June 28, 1899 at Milton.  Sister Maggie was a witness.

Maggie Eliza(22) born Palgrave, Ontario married Thomas Wesley Galloway(25), Butcher on Sept 4, 1907 at Toronto.

Clara(23) married David Nelson Ryder(26), electric plater, on October 17, 1911 at Milton

Albert Thomas married Annie Crewson July 25, 1912 at the village of Everton.

Some grandchildren for Mary Hannah/Ann.
You can probably find more if you find the families on the various census.
 
Edmund with his first wife had Mary Isobel b. Jan 31, 1900 Simcoe County and with his second wife had Albert Edmund b. June 7, 1909 Simcoe County

Eliza Jane with Joseph Peacock had
Victor Harold b. Nov 30, 1898 Halton County (she used Jennie)
Gladys b. Nov 13, 1900 Halton County (under Jennie)
Stuart Edmund b. Apr 15, 1906 Halton County (under Elizabeth Jane)

From the 1911 census Tamar had Marjorie and Jack.  She resided in Milton, Ontario.

John Stephenson b. Hawthorpe England died Feb 4, 1914 at 65 years old.  His wife was still living.  cause sudden apoplexy.  Lived Victoria St. Milton.  Informant thomas McJanette, daughter Tamar's husband.

John George Fleetham s/o John and Jane married at age 23.  Living in Caledon East and an employee of the railway.  Married Elizabeth Berney(19) August 4, 1887 at Caledon East
1891 living Caledon and birth date given as 4 Sept 1863.  1901 census living Caledon and employed as a section foreman.  The births of his children all record his employment as Section Foreman

Rachel Pearl b. 13 Jan 1897 Caledon East  At 26, schoolteacher, of Caledon East married William John Stanley Gott, 35, Farmer of Caledon East  at Caledon East on 4 Dec 1923.

1891 to 1911 census they are in Caledon.
