Old Heath, Colchester
« on: Thursday 03 September 09 19:36 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Can anyone enlighten me as to where Ivy Place in Old Heath Colchester was?
The address has come up in the 1911 census and I have no idea where it was or is despite being a Colchester girl. Any clues would be helpful.

Thank you.

Hi Karen

Looking on Google Earth, Old Heath looks as if it's on the SE side of Colchester. However Ivy Place doesn't come up so perhaps it doesn't exsist now. It will probably show up in old maps.

Thank you Jan.
I was born in Colchester and took a drive around the Old Heath Road area looking for clues but no luck! I shall visit the Colchester library at the weekend as they should have some maps for me to pour over.

Hi again

I've just looked at the 1901 census and done a place search for Ivy Place - again nothing. However a  lot of the houses in old Heath ( presumably Old Heath Road?) had names, so I wonder if perhaps you could be looking for a row of cottages that were called Ivy Place and not a road? Just an idea.

Were the people you are looking for there in 1901? If you don't have access to that census give me the names and I'll have a look.

Hi Jan,

Rose and Stanley Hyam moved to Old Heath in 1910.  The full address I'm searching is 32, Vine Cottage, Ivy Place, Old Heath Colchester. I shall try and get to the library and check the registers tomorrow.  I appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Karen
