Can someone tell me which newspapers would have been around in Eastbourne in mid 1948 please?

Thanks

The Gazette was published on Wednesday, the Chronicle on Friday and the Herald on Saturday. The Herald and Chronicle merged but I don't know when.

"The Eastbourne Herald and Eastbourne Gazette series have been providing news to the people of the town and surrounding districts for nearly 150 years. The Gazette was launched in 1859 and was the town’s first newspaper. The Herald was originally called the Eastbourne Chronicle, and came into being as a competitor to the Gazette in 1865. Eastbourne is one of the few remaining towns in the UK which has a midweek paid-for newspaper as well as an end-of-week title."

The Gazette was still being published in 1952.

I live in Northamptonshire  Wink

But thanks anyway.

I was thinking of going down to the Newspaper Library at Colindale.

Although I may well email the paper from the info given earlier by Jayaydee.

I paid Colindale £1-20 to photocopy a page last time I was there ,about 2 years ago.

It was the inquest of my great great aunt who had comitted suicide aged just 32 and left two young girls.Funnily enough just along the road from the newspaper library itself!

my quote was  for posting although I had the page and issue details. Given they have to get the volume out if you visit or if it is a postal application £20+ for P+P is a little extortionate (putting it politely)
