Nana's three smashers!
|
Hi
Please does anyone have access to the Barham, Suffolk, baptism register or BTs and can tell me if a George BARBER was baptised circa 1788?
George married Ann at some time before 1810, quite possibly at Barham but more likely in Ann's parish of Little Stonham, Suffolk.
Does anyone have access to either of these registers please?
Any help would be very useful. Thank you.

Taken from Barham parish register.
George s/o John and Elizabeth Barber (late Elizabeth Claydon spinster) was born March 13th 1788 and baptised July 19th 1788.
I did a quick check but couldn't see George and Ann's marriage at either Barham or Little Stonham.
Regards Anne

Hello Anne
Thank you so much for this. I am extremely grateful to you.
This is interesting, I wonder if the phrase "late Elizabeth Clayton spinster" means that she was dead at the time of George's baptism, or do you think it was just referring to her as "formerly" Elizabeth Claydon?
IGI has no mariages for Barham and I don't see John's baptism there either, so more hunting required in the near future!
Thanks again for your input, it was very kind of you. Best wishes Carol

Hi Carol
In many parish registers, they refer to the mother's maiden name as "late", where I suppose nowadays we would use the word "nee".
So definitely still alive and kicking
Best wishes Anne
