If that was the correct location then I guess it would be centre one fifth of this industrial section...
Karen will let me know if I'm wrong, as she is our land lady...  Grin hehe
looks to be all taken up with railroad now...Centre road is now called Hurontario Street, or Hwy.10

The railroad ran through the middle of their house  Lips Sealed Lips Sealed Lips Sealed

I'm trying to get a feel for it. I've downloaded the maps and will try to supperimpose.  I think John must have given his daughter Jeanie part of the Lot when he moved to the land at Pearson. Letters mention that Jeanie was disabled in some way but I can't work out what was wrong.

Unfortunately, I don't have the Pearson address apart from a cousin saying that  it was now under the airport. I'll check to see if the 1871 census has an accurate location for  it.

I think today it is the Toronto International Airport.  You can see on that map that the Etobicoke Creek runs through and Malton is close by which is the present day Airport.  You've been there before right Gadget  Grin

Genie, that's ok, you people in Toronto forget about us in the outskirts  Wink  Kiss

So, does that mean that he didn't move and Lot 3 is the one under Pearson?

Thanks, Genie  Cheesy

So, if the family had kept the land and all the others with closer claims than me had died, I'd not be too badly off !

I love maps  Smiley

Exactly Genie, it was 1957 when the Government expropriated land for the Airport.  A friend of mine is an historian for the area and his family homestead was expropraited.   I think I got his last book he wrote somewhere.

Hi Jeff

Yes she is.  She's mentioned in the letter from John  to James. I think she had  a post office  as well as wee Tom  Grin  She never married. Have you got John's family details?  If not, I'll dig them out.

Hi Jackie

Welcome to Rootschat and thank you for your kind offer  Smiley

I think the property that we were looking for is now under the tarmac at the airport so I'm not sure if there's much to see anymore. A pity as I would have loved to have seen Uncle John's land.

... a related question:

Has anyone had any experience / success trying to map pages in the 1851 Ontario census (particularly in the York County area) to lot and concession numbers?

There is often information in the census about the route the census taker took.
