Thompson Bros. of Blackbur, Padiham and Whalley
« on: Friday 04 March 05 13:32 UTC (UK) »

I am very interested in the brothers Richard, William, James and John Thompson, cotton mill owners and local politicians in the mid-late 19th C. Blackburn padiham and Whalley. Supposedly their father, Richard, was a building contractor in Blackburn . Any information is extremely welcome.

You mentioned that ANY Information was welcome
I was searching through a CD ROM Book about
Darwen and Its People.

It states that the Blackburn branch of Thompsons,
(Mill Owners) were related to the Darwen Branch.

Not much I know, but it might be helpful.

Hello and thanks for this reply.  This is an excellent bit of info.  I now have another direction.  I notice that Eccles is one of your interests.  I have a William Eccles born 1822 Lower Darwen to Joseph Eccles and Betty Livesey.  They were mill owners in Darwen going way back.
Many thanks

My Eccles's Family are based acround Thornley with Wheatley (near Chipping).

I have another line which married into my Mercer
Family, they also lived at Thornley with Wheatley but
he originated from Ribchester.

Ann Thompson (from the Darwen Branch married into the Hunt Family).

Ann was the daughter of Thomas who was the son of
James.

The book also states that There are not many of the
Thompson family still in Darwen, but relatives also
moved to Harwood. I presume this means GREAT
Harwood.

Please bear in mind this book was originally printed in the late 1800's by a descent of Jeremy Hunt.

The information as been passed down orally.

Hello there and thanks for the reply and information.  I think I have actually heard of this book by Jeremy Hunt on CD . I am going to send off for it as it sounds very intereting even if I find nothing directly relating.
Thanks again.
