Possible Oxshott area burial 1951
« on: Saturday 05 September 09 10:06 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to track down the burial place of my grandfather, Harold Heward CLARKE. He died on 24 Oct 1951. In fact he died in Streetly near Birmingham but had been living in Oxshott from 1934 until early 1951.

I've so far been unable to find any record of a burial for him in the Birmingham area so I'm wondering if he could have been buried in his old home town of Oxshott.

If anyone has access to Surrey burial records I would be most grateful for a lookup.

Hi

Oxshott is in Elmbridge Council's area so you will need to contact them about a possible burial in one of their cemeteries

http://www.elmbridge.gov.uk/cemeteries/cemeteriesaddress.htm

If he was buried in a local churchyard then it is to be expected by now those burial records will have been deposited with the Surrey History Centre.

The list of the Anglican records they hold is here

There is now a guide at the top of the Surrey Lookup board you might find useful

Valda, thanks for those links. I had tried the Surrey Local History Centre previously but the Surrey CC website was running interminably slowly at the time...

Looks like St Andrews, Oxshott doesn't 'do' burials.

I'll try contacting the cemeteries office.

Hi John

Welcome to Rootschat

Can I suggest you post details of your Elmbridge website in a topic posted on the Surrey Resources page

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?board=393.0

and not into other topics on other boards (Beginners and this topic which is now in the Surrey completed board) where I'm afraid it isn't really going to be seen by most Surrey posters who might be interested.
