Jeffries/Jefferies family in Bitton

Hi all,

This is my first posting - so apologies if this all sounds a bit amateurish!

I'm trying to research my paternal line, and a looking at the Jefferies/Jeffries/Jefferis in Bitton, Gloucestershire (though sometimes rendered as Somerset).

My 2* great grandfather, Eli Jefferies b.1853 moved from Bitton to Castleford, Yorkshire.

I'm trying to trace the family back further. Eli's father was Aaron Jeffries b.1831 married Elizabeth Payne in 1851

Eli had the following siblings:
Albert b.1851
Aaron b.1862
Walter b.1864
Annie b.1866
William b.1869
Samuel b.1871

There I'm stuck - I think there's a possible Christening record for Aaron b.1830, showing his mother as Hannah Unknown, but I'm stuck for ideas on how to progress Aaron's or Elizabeth Payne's family back further.

Any help out there?

If you have a look at the index http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,369296.0.html  you will find a link to a Bitton site where you might find help.

There's also a link to LDS batch numbers not on the Hugh Wallis site and there's a Bitton batch there and you'll be told how to go about the search.

P.S.  I'd forgotten that the only Bitton Batch has an "I" prefix.  The batch is under a cloud at the moment for its contents seem to come from another parish, so beware.

Thought one of the census lookers-up would have given this by now:-

Shown in the 1841 census at Bitton is:-

William Jefferies 30 Ag lab Y
Rachel    do        30           Y
James     do         9            Y
Clement  do         6           Y
Aaron      do         2           Y

Y= born in county.

You seem to have some errors in your dates.

Search for Aaron's marriage at http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl 1850 to 1860 and you'll find just one and that's in 1858.  I did not search for all.

You need to buy some certs if you want to be certain of all.

If you find a birth twice in the same place but a few years apart, check the death registrations too.  Bitton is in the Reg. Dist of Keynsham  see http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/keynsham.html
