Robert NOBLE, Enniskillen
« on: Sunday 06 September 09 01:46 UTC (UK) »

I located online official records for my great-grandfather, a cattle dealer named Robert Noble, who was born about 1852 and married Mary Ann McDermott, also born about 1852, in Enniskillen on 28 April 1874. They lived on Fort Hill Street in Enniskillen as of 1862, 1874, 1875; Quay Street in 1882; and Belmore Street 1884, 1886.

Robert's father was a horse trainer named Andrew Noble. He lived on Fort Hill Street in 1862, according to Griffith's Valuation.

Robert and Mary's children were:
  • Isabel b 6 Aug 1875
  • Elizabeth b 19 Feb 1880
  • George Francis b 16 May 1882
  • Robert James b 4 Aug 1884
  • Sarah Anne b 12 Dec 1886

Elizabeth married a man named McGuire and was living in Glasgow in 1947. The other children left Ireland for the US. George and Robert worked on passenger steamships. Robert left home around 1907, worked for Anchor Line until 1910, when he began working for the Panama Canal Railroad Steamship Co and making runs between New York City and Panama. George was an onboard security officer for United States Lines as of 1931 and seemed to have no permanent address.  He drops from view after that. Isabel married Michael Gordon and lived in Paterson, NJ, where she died in 1947. Sarah came to New York, where she married Bernard "Ben" Maggio and settled down. She died in 1966 in Long Island City, Queens, NY.

I've posted what I know about the family at Rootsweb WorldConnect. I'd love to learn more about my great-grandfather, Andrew Noble, and his ancestors.

BTW: I had my DNA tested recently at Ancestry.com and they've provided me with names of people I'm likely related to, but the connections are more than six generations back. One of the big surnames in my line seems to be DAVES. I'll be in touch with some of my likely relatives and compare notes.
