Can anyone please help me find info on Roseamond or Rosemond ROBINSON born 1859/1860 in Nash Buckinghamshire. 1861 Census shows him aged 2 with parents Robert & Emily & brothers Robert & Frederick in Cosgrove Northamptonshire. His christian name was shown as Ro Samonal on the census form but I'm sure this was a spelling error.

I have been looking for the birth of Rosamond Robinson with no luck, so thank you for that. Rosamond was married to Mary Barclay in Queensland Australia in 1883 and his parents are noted as being Robert and Ellen Green. I would be interested to know about the family as I am trying to connect them to a George Palmer Robinson, or to the Collier family of Staffordshire. Thanks.

Rosamond Robinson was my Great Grandfather, I am not sure that his mother was Ellen Green as shown on the marriage certificate to Mary Barclay. His father Robert married Emma Smith in 1851 Winslow District Northamptonshire. Emma also used the name Emily. their children were Robert born abt.1850, Frederick Charles 1855, Rosamond 1859/60, Helen 1861, Alexander1864, Albert Victor 1866, George 1870. The family emigrated to Australia in 1870. They arrived in Moreton Bay Queensland Australia on 11th January 1871 aboard the Clipper Ship "Light Brigade". I am still trying to find proof of Rosamond's birth record to find his mothers real name, but am still searching. Hope this info is some help for you.

Thank you for the information. I have come across some information at the Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney which has been donated. There is a lot of information there that I'm sure you would be interested in, maybe you already know of it's existence. I suggest you go to http://www.sag.org.au/ and search the Primary Records Database under the Databases tab at the top. When in Primary Records search for 'Robinson' on the left-hand side. Here you will see the extensive range of information available. If you do an advanced search for 'Robinson Rosamond' you will find there is actually a photograph of him. I'm not sure if there's anything there to help you with Rosamond's birth though. Let me know if you need any more help. Are you in Sydney? I will keep looking for his birth on the internet.

Thanks for that info. Uncle Fred Robinson who was my Dad's cousin donated all that stuff. I can remember as a young girl he completed his family tree. It was a huge document and the last I knew he donated it to the John Oxley Library in Brisbane Qld. I live in Brisbane down on the Bay. I hope to be able to purchase copies of the photo files relating to Rosamond, Robert and families even if I have to go to Sydney to get them. Back to Rosamond's birth I'm starting to believe he may not have been registered or that he was given another name at birth and then called Rosamond later on. throughout my research I have found this to be very common. I have traced the family back to Thomas Robinson 1778 - 1864 in Potterspury Northamptonshire. Noela.

Noela I'm very grateful for all the information you've given me. I have been doing some voluntary work for the Society of Australian Genealogists. The collection of Fred's family information included two large journals written by a Charles Frederick Collier. I have been given the job of indexing the journals and later given the task of working out why Collier Journals were part of the Fred Robinson donation. Charles Frederick Collier had a friend with the name Charles Palmer Robinson, so I'm looking into the Robinson ancestors to see if I can find a connection to him. Do you know Herbert Robinson who married Marie Helen Collier in QLD in 1911? Is he one of Fred's relatives? I found this on QLD BDM indexes. If you wanted to look at all Fred's documents you would need quite some time in Sydney. You can see how to get research help at the Society on the website under the 'How can we help you tab?'. Possibly I would get the job, and that would be great. I hope we can keep in touch Lorna

Noela Have you thought about Rosamond's name being two words, as it looked on the census like Ro Samond? Was it Robert and got shortened? I think the spelling could be the problem as the name seems so unusual for a man. Are there any maiden names in the ancestors that look like Samond? Anyway, I'm sure you've thought of all that.

From the baptism register of Nash, Buckinghamshire (Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies Ref: PR152/1/1):
19 Jun 1859 Rosamond child of Robert and Emma ROBINSON of Old Stratford, sawyer
The entry does not state whether the child is a son or a daughter. This is the only ROBINSON entry in the register between 1858 and 1870 There are no registers prior to 1858 as the parish of Nash was not created until 1854. Other entries might be found in the registers of Whaddon or Thornton. Old Stratford, where Robert and Emma were then living, is in Northamptonshire, a hamlet in the parishes of Cosgrove, Furtho, Passenham and Potterspury. It has no registers.
