Hi

Going backwards again - Here is the Levett Family in the 1881 census and young Agnes is just 3months old - bless her

Household Record  1881 British Census

 Name  Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability
 William LEVETT   Head   M   Male   52   Arlington, Sussex, England   Gamekeeper & Woodreve
 Agness LEVETT   Wife   M   Female   46   Isfield, Sussex, England
 Fredrick LEVETT   Son   U   Male   15   Laughton, Sussex, England   Ag Lab
 Philip LEVETT   Son      Male   10   Isfield, Sussex, England   Scholar
 Job LEVETT   Son      Male   8   Isfield, Sussex, England   Scholar
 Albert LEVETT   Son      Male   5   Buxted, Sussex, England
 Edward LEVETT   Son      Male   2   Buxted, Sussex, England
 Agness LEVETT   Daur      Female   3 m   Buxted, Sussex, England
~~~~~~~~
Source Information:
  Dwelling   Brows Brook
  Census Place Buxted, Sussex, England
  Family History Library Film   1341249
  Public Records Office Reference   RG11
  Piece / Folio   1054 / 46
  Page Number   6
I do not have access to the 1871 and 1861 census, but I do have transcript copies of the 1851 and 1841 for East Sussex - so will look on them for the Levett as William should be 22 and Agnes should be 16, but listed as Agnes Gurr.
And Finally
1841 Census.
HO107/1115/ 8 Folio 1 – 12 – Polhills, Arlington, Sussex.
LEVETT John, 35, Ag Lab, born in Sussex
            Ann, 35, born in Sussex
            Thomas, 15, Sussex
            John, 13, Sussex
            William, 11, Sussex
            Emma, 9, Sussex
            Sarah, 6, Sussex
            Benjamin, 4, Sussex
            Jesse, 2, Sussex
The 1841 Census only gave very brief details like Name, Age, M or F, Occupation, whether born in County (Yes / No)
Adults over 13 had their ages rounded down to the nearest 5, so Williams Father John could have been 36, 37, 38 or 39 – like wise his mother Ann.
Something terrible must have happened to the parents for them to be missing on the 1851 census where William was listed as the Head and in charge of the family.
Sorry, but as yet, I do not have the 1841 Census for Isfield.
Hope that has helped you with your research and perhaps names and places may help jog Great Granmothers Memory - bless her, try to talk to her as much as you can, plus tape record everything she remembers.
Hi there Sandy
Charles Joseph Bravery: Born 15/9/1985,
Charles Willy Bravery (Charles J Bravery's son)
Charles Willy was/is I believe my Great Great Grandfather. He moved to Australia when my Great Grandmother was 3, she is now 97 and still living in Australia.
If Charles Willy was born on 15/9/1895 instead of Charles Joseph as you listed above, then this looks to be your family.
1891 England Census
Bravery, Seaford
Name Age in 1891 Birthplace Relationship to head-of-house Civil parish County
Bravery , Annie 32 Seaford, Sussex Daughter-in-law  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , Charles P 29 Newhaven, Sussex Son  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , Charles W 5 Seaford, Sussex Grandson  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , Emma 56 Arlington, Sussex Wife  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , Frances M 4.12 Seaford, Sussex Grandaughter  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , George 52 Brighton, Sussex Head  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , George H 3 Seaford, Sussex Grandson  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , Isabella 17 Bradford, Yorkshire Daughter  Seaford  Sussex
Bravery , Lilian E 2 Seaford, Sussex Grandaughter  Seaford  Sussex
Hi Again
Here is the scan and full reference details of your Bravery Family in Seaford.
RG12/ 775/ Folio 108/ Page 34 - Burlington House, Broad Street, Seaford.
If you can confirm that this is the correct family, I will then try to locate them in the 1901 Census, then follow them back through the 1881, 1851 and possibly 1841 census for you - but I do know there were NILL Bravery surnames in Seaford in 1851; looks as though they may have been in Brighton though.
Incidentally family occupation was 'Upholsterers'
Hi Chris,
That looks like my family! Thanks so much! I will send all the information home to my mum so she can talk to my Great Grandma about it. My Great Grandma hasn't been back to England since she was three. I think Agnes was the maid who married the son. The son was then taken out of his fathers will and they left for Australia. If you could have a look at the Brighton Bravery's as well that would be great.
Thanks again!
Hello Bob
Re your enquiry
I am looking for a George and Elizabeth Roots who were in Biddenden Kent in 1825-1830 and may of been in Sussex. This family seems to of stayed in the Weald of Kent and Sussex areas.
Does the Weald of Sussex show anything in the 1831,41 and 51 census for this couple
First of all my apologies for not answering this query earlier, somehow or other it slipped through the net for which I do apologise.
.
At the present moment I do not have access to any census for Kent in the time period that you require.
The surname Rootes / Roots is quite common in Sussex and Kent in the 19th Century - unfortunately you do not provide much information about George or Elizabeth that would enable finding the correct couple in the very basic information contained in the early census.
A Good site for information on the Weald of Sussex is
www.thesussexweald.org
Sorry I can not be more helpful at the moment
Hi again
Just noticed that the wife of Charles has changed from Annie born in Seaford on the 1891 census to Rosina born in East Grinstead on the 1901 census and George now has a stepdaughter Edith Watson.
So it looks like a second marriage.
The 1901 also shows that they now had an established Furniture making business in Seaford which verifies your earlier information:
"I think that Charles J Bravery built the Ritz and the Empire theatres in Seaford, owned a furniture company Barvery and son and were fairly well known members of the town."
Hi Chris,
That's the problem I have with this Roots family. The only other information is George father a son with Mary Harris at Cranbrook in 1824. I have the bastardy papers on this. She was born 1805 and I am assuming he should of been at least 21 because he was a carpenter. This would put his age at least at 1803 - 1795.  I am trying doing a sweep of all possible George's in the Weald.
Thank you for the information.
Hi Chris,
Many thanksfor for latest lookups regards LEVETT.   The following is in answer to your questions:
Victims
There are about half a dozen entries of LEVETT victims but non named John.
Answer:  Could you please send me the list of victims too as I did not know this existed.
Could you please also advise if there is a Henry ADAMS in the QS too.
There are Henry Adams in both Offenders and Victims - which did you want?
Answer:  Henry ADAMS offender in March 1838.
One last question what Catholic church and cemetery existed in or very nearby Lewes area in the early 1840s.
Many thanks for all of your time.  Your work is very useful to me.
