Hi diana2646

Welcome to RootsChat.  Smiley

Perhaps you could expand a little more on just what it is you are trying to find out ?

Obviously, as it's over 80 years since your father was in New Zealand, persons who knew him, are very probably no longer around, to answer questions.

Do you have an idea of where your father was employed ?

Oooh   ... perhaps you're onto to something there, Althea ??    Smiley

[I'd only found a "Victor David I. WHITNEY" birth on FREE BDM - registered MAR 1909 at Neath Huh ]

They surely must be related, very uncommon names, to have same name as someone born in 1890's

Hi Mk2
Originally looking for the 1920's option, but in doing so found that in Wellington there was a child born 1890's with exact string of names.
So surely must be related, and ??who the UK one by same name came to see???

Hi, My Father was born Neath, England, 1908.

Just to say - Neath is in Glamorganshire which is Wales, not England.

Have you tried looking for him on the 1911 census yet?

Kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

In 1911 there is an Ivor WHITNEY aged 4 in Neath.

Others in the household are Harold, Lucy and baby Edith aged 1.  Does that sound like them?

Mmm ... whoever this "same-name" chap was, he doesn't appear to have remained in New Zealand ?

There is a WW1 (Archives NZ) record for "a Victor WHITNEY" (nothing on Cenotaph database).

"Charles WHITNEY - father"  ... only a burial at Karori (Wellington) for a "Charles Augustus Arthur WHITNEY - 1906 - aged 51 (bc 1855) ?
FREE BMD has a BIRTH - MAR - 1856 - Charles Arthur Augustus WHITNEY - reg'd. Walsall (Staffordshire).

But none of the above of course really helps.   Sad

Hi Diana

Where did you get the information regarding the voyage, from ??

Looking at "findmypast" passenger indexes, I can see a "Victor WHITNEY - b. 1909 - Southampton to Wellington NZ - 1927".

AND  ... same year, (possibly) on this same voyage,  >>

"WHITNEY - Ernest - b. 1909"

*  Do you know who Ernest WHITNEY is / was Huh
