Hello Di
When loading the photo, make sure it is not too big and you will probably have to rename it (Rootschat remembers previous attempts, annoyingly!)

Hi Di Just to clarify one thing the man born with exact string of names was not born in NZ at least we can't find him on birth list.
His father was Charles Augustus Arthur Whitney and Lu has previous info on him He had other children: Frank Aston b 1898, Lily b 1892 and Victor.
So no Charles in your treees?? Bye Althea

Hi Sources previously quoted for this SAME NAME person who lived in NZ and born prior to this posters query. I was just trying to clarify if the family were related and if so with exact name combinations they may have been the family this person visited
Was he born 1893? If so he went to school in Wellington (from NZSG records) Bye Althea

Hi Lucy 2, las camelias, and althea, I have found Ernest Whitney on the same passenger list as my Dad, and it says he travelled with another man - Harold Lymberg (names bracketed together) and address given - Salvation Army Farm, Hadleigh, Essex. I found also Ernest Whitney on 1911 census (if I have got correct one) living with his Mother, Rose Whitney and she was 29 and a widow, employed as a rag-sorter. My GT. Grandfather David, has three sisters, Jane, Mary & Hannah. He married in 1869 in South Glamorgan and 1st born son was Ralph Percy in 1880. Ralph married Kate Hughes in 1904 and moved to Dorking, Surrey. 1911 census shows they had 1 son - Leslie Arthur, born in 1906. Hope this helps, Di

Hi Diana
Well, despite there being no apparent family connection between your Dad and "Ernest WHITNEY" that's actually helpful information you've provided, especially as it relates to Ernest WHITNEY and Harold LYMBERG from the Salvation Army Farm in Essex.
After WW1, a group of New Zealand farmers, organised a scheme for young British men, to come here to be trained in farm work. As the Ernest and Harold above, appear that they might have been budding farmers ... and you say you have photos of your Dad in NZ, milking cows ... I'm thinking that they may have all been part of this farm training initiative ?
I'll see what other info I can find, and get back to you.
Lu
