Baptism at St Andrew, Ham. Lookup please
« on: Monday 07 September 09 09:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi Jannic,

Could you please see if you have a baptism for a William Charles Charman born 1868.  The birth registration that I think may be correct is 1868, Kingston Jun 2a 271.

He is listed on the census as being born in Ham Common.  I have been advised to request a lookup on here as you kindly offer to do so.

I have his marriage certificate (1889) and his father is noted as William Charles Charman.  I have no idea who his mother is.

It would be great if you can see if you have one that ties in with those names!  He is proving to be quite elusive!

Regards Emma

If you have ordered the cert as you mentioned in another post hopefully you won't have to wait long

I only found 1 in a barracks 1881, obviously no father's name given, the only other one on a previous census had a father John and d of b 1865

Time will tell if you have the right information, witnesses are also a good scource of information on marriage certs

Hi Maud,

I have not seen that one in barracks before in 1981.  Could you let me have the ref no or location.

I will update the request as soon as the certificate comes.

Thanks for your time

Thank you Maud,

I will see if I can find them, I think the one in barracks would be too old but I will have a look at both anyway.  Any problems I will let you know.

Hi Louisa,

I have just noticed that I have been calling you Maud!  How rude of me.  Just wanted to apologise!  I am having a look now.   Also waiting for the postman with that certificate.  They seem to be taking a while these last few weeks.

Thanks again

Thank you so much.  I have not been able to get online either as have been hectic and recently returned to work after maternity!

I got the birth certificate with the mother Martha and no father is noted.  It is strange because on his marriage certificate his father is listed as William Charles Charman.  I think now that this must have been a mistake and that he was illegitimate.

A relative has recently told me that Martha married a West so looks like it is the right family!  Will probably never know his father then!!

Thanks to everyone for your help
