Hi,
I'm hoping a rootschatter has a FHS parish CD and/or can assist with suggestions of where/how to find a baptism of Friedrich Ludwig SCHADE which took place 1819 "in London" and also find the marriage of the baby's parents.
The father was HENRY SCHADE (full name Johann Heinrich Anton Schade b circa 1782 in Essel, Hanover) who served with the King's German Legion from 1803 to 1815 when he was discharged aged 33 as per Kew records: WO 97 Royal Hospital Chelsea: Soldiers Service Documents.
The German Legions were mostly barracked near the south coast so he either met his bride in the area of the barracks or, if he'd been receiving hospital treatment for injuries, he could have met her in London during his convalescence.
Henry's bride was SARA CO(C)KRAM and according to her death certificate she was possibly born 6 March 1787 (as per her death entry).
I've asked about the army link on this thread: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=404825.new;topicseen#new
Fingers crossed Rena

Hi
Have you checked the army registers held by the GRO which go back into the C18th. They are held in the overseas section of the GRO indexeses regardless whether in the case of the army the even happened abroad. It a marriage or baptism was taken by an army chaplain other than in the Guards regiment you might find it in the GRO indexes. The GRO overseas indexes can be found on Findmypast
http://www.findmypast.com/home.jsp
Is it known what religion Henry was?
Regards
Valda

Hi Valda,
Thanks for responding. The descendant has written to me again to clarify religions, etc. which are the usual Anglican for the bride and Lutheran for the groom: -
<<Henry served in the 1st Regiment of Hussars KGL. He fighted in the Battle of Waterloo. In the Battle of Salamanca, in 1812, he received a flesh wound through his arm.
The death entry of the Church book of Schwarmstedt in 1827 mentions him as a pensionnaire of the KGL.
There were 3 known children. The first, Friedrich Ludwig, according to his marriage entry at Schwarmstedt in 1872 was born in London on 29th Jan. 1819.
The 2nd child was born at Essel in 1822. The 3rd and last child, my gg-grandmother, in 1826.
Their mother Sara Cokram died at Essel in 1861. In the Church registers at Schwarmstedt her last name was always written Cokram. Her death entry says that she grew up in England and she was of the Anglican faith. Henry was lutheran.>>
So we've got a gap of over three years in between Henry (Heinrich) being demobbed from the army in 1815 (in Chelsea?) and the January 1819 baptism of his child in London.
I only use findmypast on a pay as you go basis and the searches for Schade & Cokram bring up some pretty far fetched results so I'll pass up on that lol
Thanks again, Rena

Hi Rena
Look specifically only in the GRO overseas indexes. They are also held on
http://www.familyrelatives.com/
Or try in the guide at the top of the London and Middlesex board
LINKS TO RECOMMENDED RESEARCH GUIDES – CHECK THESE OUT
For research guides produced by the London Metropolitan Archives et al, on non-conformism, particularly Lutheranism.
Otherwise since the marriage is not on the IGI, or Pallots marriage index, the only other main marriage index is Boyds
http://www.britishorigins.com/
London, Westminster and Middlesex Family History Society might also have a marriage index.
http://www.lwmfhs.org.uk/
and West Middlesex FHS

Hi Valda,
I appreciate your tips and the links. I don't know about the marriage but I have a feeling that Heinrich would have had his first son baptised in the Lutheran church.
Thanks very much
Rena
