COMPLETED Died at ? Lathom ? Congleton
« on: Monday 07 September 09 14:52 UTC (UK) »

I've just had a look at some old notes made by a relative which say that an ancestor died at Lathom (or something similar) Congleton in the 1860s. I've no idea what the source of the information was & the place name is unfamiliar. I am now going to order the death certificate, but in the meantime does anyone know if it was a district of Congleton & if so roughly where?

I have searched & get references to a Latham/Lathom family - nothing that indicates a locality.

Latham sort of rings a bell, but I can't find it on Google.  Somewhere in the back of my mind, I think it is/was near to Warrington, but I could be totally wrong. Roll Eyes

Lizzie & les thanks for your thoughts.

I found the one in Lancashire & that definitely isn't the one I'm looking for - the death was registered in the Congleton district. The notes were made by an uncle (no longer alive) probably about 15-20 years ago after he'd had a stroke which affected his writing. I've ordered the death certificate so will see what it says & let you know.

Here's the list of parishes in Congleton RD.

How good is your handwriting ? Might it be Tetton?

Thanks for that Shaun - nothing similar, beginning to think it will be a farm or hamlet... I will let you know when the certificate arrives

Certificate has just arrived (well done Cheshire East) - death was in another part of the registration district at his home - nothing like Lathom, so I think this may have been "hearsay" recorded by my uncle rather than a research jotting.
Thanks for the ideas folks!
