Hi

The D & G Archives would most likely have the newspapers:

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2300

Nothing showing on SP for an adult male S*der* in Kirkcudbrightshire or Dumfriesshire in those years.  I'll do a wider search.

Scotland's People is only showing 18 deaths for the whole country of male "Saunders" 1920-1925. aged between 15 and 60.

It could be worth spending a couple of credits to get a list of possible names. there are free credits available: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,353206.0.html

Hope this helps

Nothing at all that looks like him in the area over the time period specified. + a few years either side.

Hi wcgs, Gadget and Kirsty,

Could this be him? Undecided A few years after your date, wcgs.

William McRobert Saunders, d. 20th September 1929 near Craigie-? Lodge, Water Road, Moffat (usually residing at Gotterbie, Lockerbie). Aged 26 and parents William Rogerson Saunders, shepherd (deceased) and Jane Saunders m.s. McRobert.

Death looks like lower ribs on both sides fractured. Both lungs severely injured. Sad

I have checked out the RCE (Register of Corrected Entries) attached to the cert. on ScotlandsPeople, and it confirms William died around 11:50am on the Moffat-Selkirk Road, near to Craigieburn in Moffat. Death verdict was crushed/injured rupture of the lungs and shock, sustained in the course of his employment.

Hi wcgs,

Where did the approximate date of his death appear from? If it has been passed down the family, perhaps details have became wrong. As so often happens! Grin

Are you related to the Saunders? If so, you could check for your definite known relative and check for brothers (or other male relatives) to see what became of them.

You have to contact them - either by letter or phone. The details are given at the bottom of the page  that I gave the link to under 'Contact Details'

I quote from the third item listed in their resources:

Quote
Local Newspapers from 1777, many of them fully indexed by ourselves.

Hi

His parents married in 1901 in Hutton & Corrie, so you could check up on the births on SP from then on.

It could prove a wee bit expensive.
