It's a very long shot, but there's a marriage at Holy Trinity, Darlington, in 1939 of Elsie Oliver to Kenneth Chamberlain.

Does anyone have any information about Emily's father James Clapham Oliver? I discovered that in 1869 William Thomas Pearson(my great grandfather) and James Clapham Oliver, of 42 and 43, Market-place, Bishop Auckland, in the county of Durham, were General Drapers and Clothiers, trading together as Pearson and Company.

It does seem strange I agree, but James Clapham Oliver is such an unusual name. My thoughts are that perhaps James did the accounting for Pearson & Co, or maybe he invested some money in the company as he wasn't a draper. Next spring I'm planning to visit the north of England to do some research on Pearson & Co, maybe this will unravel the myster. Kind Regards Ruth
