Completed: Marriage Lookup early 1800's - Hook
« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 08:31 UTC (UK) »

I'm looking for the marriage of Henry Hook (b. 1786)  to a Susan (b. 1785). Henry was born in Sussex, but in the 1851 census it states that Susan was born in Jersey. I haven't been able to find a marriage in Sussex, so I thought they may have been married in Jersey. They had one child as far as I am aware, Frederick (b. 1818 in Sussex). Both Henry and Susan dies in Sussex in 1858.

Can anyone point me in a direction where I might be able to track down if this marriage did occur in Jersey. Thank you.

Hi

Have not been able to find a Hook marriage but have found a John Henry Hooke of the 2nd Battalion, 57th Regiment, who married a Susan Picot on 4th December 1806 at St Helier Parish Church.

There are no other details.

Unfortunately 1841 Census reveals nothing more. No children at home and same occp Gardener. Susan is put down as born in county though. Probably a mistake.
There is a Mark TODD, aged 20 living with them.

Thank you Stewart, Thank you Trish for your responses.

Stewart, are you be able to confirm if there were any children christened at the same church with parents of John Henry and Susan? My thinking is that if there were other children they may have been born in Jersey.

Hi Jenny

I can look next week for any Hook(e) births between 1806 and 1818 (when they were in Sussex).

Hi Jenny

Just the one birth in St Helier for a Henry James Hook (no E on the end), son of Henry Hook and Susanne Picot. Born 15th May 1811 and baptised 24th May 1811. God-parents were James Bessin and Mary Picot.

I also checked the deaths around this time and saw that sadly Henry James, son of Henry Hook, died 3rd February 1812.

Stewart,

Thank you very much for the information. As Henry James is a common name thoughout the family, I think this maybe my guy. Your time taken for looking up this information is greatly appreciated.
