A Mary Ann Holman was born in July 1807 in Naseby but this makes her eight years too old to be my great great grandmother. Is it possible that this one died and another daughter was christened Mary Ann. I think her parents were Christopher and Elizabeth Holman. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Peter
Welcome to RootsChat!
What makes you sure the Mary Ann you refer to is 8 years too old to be your gg grandmother?
It is possible that a child could be named the same as a sibling who had died - I have certainly experienced that in my tree.
Best wishes

Thanks for your answer and my reasons are: 1. In the 1861 census, she said she was born in Nas(e)by. 2. She named her firstborn son, Christopher presumably after her father as it was first occurrence in family. The parents of the Mary Ann Holman born in Naseby in 1807 were Christopher and Elizabeth. 3. She was married in St. Helen's Cripplegate in 1836 giving a likely birth year of 1817. 4. In the 1861 census, she gave her birth year as 1817. 5. In the 1881 census, she gave her birth year as 1817 6. From the death certificate, her birth year was 1813. Peter

Hi Peter
Thanks for that explanation. I wouldn't abandon the possibility that they are the same person though. I have come across greater discrepancies in dates than these. But then again it could be a second child named the same as one who died as you mentioned before.
What was the name of your Mary's husband? What year did she die?
Best wishes

Hi,
Found these baptisms at Naseby:
Mary Ann d Christopher & Elizabeth HOLMAN born 27 July 1807 bapt 1 May 1808
William s Christopher & Elizabeth HOLMAN bapt 12 May 1811
Christopher s Christopher & Elizabeth HOLMAN bapt 2 April 1812
John s Christopher & Elizabeth HOLMAN of Naseby, farmer, bapt 7 Nov 1814
Didn't seem to be any more children baptised at Naseby after John.
Couldn't find another Mary or a burial record within these dates
We all lie about our age from time to time don't we?
regards byron

Yes indeed Byron, we do lie about our age, but Mary Ann seems to have done it consistently which is unusual for liars. Anyway, could somebody please check the inhabitants of the Christopher Holman household in the 1851 Naseby census as I cannot find any trace of Mary Ann. ???Peter
