Hi
I cannot seem to find Richard on the 1871 census at all. He was born abt 1855, Pembury, Kent. I have him with his parents and siblings on the 1861 census. RG9, 520, 74, 4
His brother John William born abt 1848, Pembury, Kent is also missing. I wonder if they are together somewhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Evie

Hi Barbara
Thank you for your replies.
Sorry for the late reply, tea was ready.
I think Richard may be this one in 1881 as trying to follow him after that the occupation tends to fit better as I believe if I have the correct Richard after that he became a cheesemonger's assistant.

Ah I see that we came to the same conclusion.
Maybe they both were in the army in 1871 as you suggested as I have tried various searches and nothing is suitable. The nearest one is the one you found Barbara. I am suprised however that he said St Mary's as all along it has been Pembury.
All the brother's seemed to have followed their father's occupation as carpenter apart from Richard and James who was also a cheesmonger.
Thank you so much for your help

Hi Barbara
I appreciate your help thank you.
Yes George and James were born Canterbury so that is a possibility, maybe they were living there at the time of John and Richard joining the army. I will see what I can find regarding that regiment.
