Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help with baptisms for Catt family members in Hawkhurst between about 1575 and 1615? I have found some baptisms on the IGI but very few in total. I have a Nicholas Catt who said he was of Hawkhurst at the time of his marriage to Ann Freman on 21.09.1607 in Ewhurst, Sussex, and I am trying to discover more about his origins. Any information about the Catt family would be very much appreciated.

Hi Lesley

Almost all the baptisms for CATT in Hawkhurst are very early, but there's nothing for a Nicholas.

However, there are three with Nicholas as the father (no mother named) that would fit in with the marriage.
Are they what you are looking for?

Hi Betty,

I would be very grateful for information on those baptisms with father Nicholas. Are there any baptisms with the name Stephen mentioned, as this name also appears to come down through the line from Nicholas? Any earlier instances may help to indicate a connection, however tenuous.

1608   31st July  Anne  dau of Nicholas CATT
1609/10  11th Mar David  son of Nicholas CATT
1611/12  5th Jan  Elizabeth dau of Nicholas CATT

No mention of a Stephen in the baptisms, one mention in the marriages:
1640 25th June
Stephen CATT
Martha WILLIAMS
