Sgt. Donald MacKay 76th Regt from Tain

Would anyone have any information on Donald MacKay who was born in Tain in or about the year 1760? He was a grenadier in the 76th Regiment during the American Revolution. He mustered out of the service at the close of that war at Port Roseway (Shelburne, NS).

Hello. I believe the Donald you're inquiring about is the one who emigrated to Nova Scotia around 1780+/-. According to a family history compiled by a relative of mine in Michigan in the U.S. around 30 years ago, that Donald was the father of Hugh McKay, who was the father of Sarah (from whom I'm descended) and her brother Donald, the famous clipper ship builder. I hope the attached page from his research is helpful.

Yes. The information I've been given is that the fourth of their eight children (b. 1846) was Henry William, who married Margretta Gilmore. The fourth of their five children (b. 1874) was Ida May, my maternal grandmother.    --Charles
