a possible...but only 4 years before Williams death...
16th February 1811 in Davenham....the marriage of
William Clark to Catharine Brown......witnesses
Joseph Barton
Mary Clark......No record notes.....how far is Davenham from Great Budworth Huh?.....just checked on Mapquest UK....6 miles so it IS a possible depending on what info you have of William...
.checking whether William / Catharine have any children after 1815.......
NONE showing , so it is possible this is your William / Catharine, but how can you prove it ?....sorry but it needs someone cleverer than me to help you on this.....maybe a moderator....(JD GEN is superb at pre 1837 marriages in Cheshire).....allan Wink

Hi Allen,

Wow, you've been busy, thank you!!!

In answer to your first question I think William was born circa 1733. I found William Clark through the christening records for Catherine Clark his daughter, but it does not mention her mothers name. I got his wife Catherine (1745-1811)  through a HINT on Ancestry but have to say do have some concerns about it as I can't find any records, also through HINTS an Ellen Lythgoe is mentioned, so with your Mary, I now realise I need to do a lot more research!! How do I get hold of this wonderman with early marriages. Can you please advise. Again thank you

Kind regards

Hi Alison,

This is one of the marriages:

William CLARK m Ellen LYTHGOE 12 July 1764 at Grappenhall St Wilfrid

Also this:

William CLARK m Katharine HIGHFIELD 18 February 1765 at Great Budworth St Mary

I assume that the christening for Catherine is 18 October 1772 at Great Budworth with possible siblings:

Elizabeth bap 23 February 1766
Margaret bap 14 January 1769
Catherine
Mary bap 18 September 1774
Deborah bap 13 April 1777

It looks as if this is one of the IGI batches which has only transcribed female baptisms.

Where have you obtained the date of death for William?

Hi Jean,

I was given it as a family hint from Ancestry and haven't been able to prove it, I'm afraid. He was definitely living in Great Budworth area (quite possibly Little Leigh as this is where most of my family generate from) and as you say yes these are his daughters. Sarah's Bapt is correct. He also had possible sons Richard 1767, Richard 1770, Ralph 1783, Thomas 1765. Do you think his death is incorrect?. Thank you for finding the 2 marriages, I still feel Catherine is running along the right lines as it seems to be a family name. Catherine juniors name is spelt both as Catherine and Katherine as well.

Hi Alison,

This might help:

Grave 430 Great Budworth:

Catherine wife of William Clark of Seven Oaks died 24 March 1811 aged 66
William Clark of Witton, son of Ralph Clark died 5 February 1855 aged 34

Grave 431 Great Budworth

William Clark of Seven Oaks died 15 October 1815 aged 82
Ralph Clark son died 27 April 1848 aged 66
Edward Clark of Comberbach, son of Ralph died 9 December 1852 aged 28
Ralph son of Edward & Mary Clark died 17 February 1853 aged 4 years

There is a will listed for a William Clark of Seven Oaks probated in 1816 - I'd suggest that it might be very helpful if this is the right William Clark.  You can order online here:
