Location within Stoke Damerel..need help please.. Completed Thanks
« on: Saturday 12 September 09 20:24 UTC (UK) »

Hello all, Smiley
Does anyone know the location of Princess St, Stoke Damerel, Morice-Devon? I have this 1861 dwelling for a William H Boase and family.
I have looked at Plymouth maps and Princess St appears to be in the central part of the city and I was wondering if this would be the correct location for Stoke Damerel.
I am making the trip down to Cornwall/Devon soon and would like to check out the addresses I have discovered. I would appreciate any help please.
Jean

It was between Granby St. & Fore St, east of King Street, Stoke Damerel. However, I suspect it was destroyed during the wartime bombings - the modern main street is Park Avenue. See http://www.btinternet.com/~mark.sandford/images/devonport.gif for an 1860 map.

Many thanks DOB7,
That is the kind of information I was needing, pity it's no longer Princess St. I have printed the map as a reference, very good of you to look.

My late brother settled in Plymouth and always said it felt like home, not knowing his Gt and 2xGt grandparents lived there for a little while. Strange what you come across when delving into the past.
Thanks again
