Thanks Tony in fact I had forgotten that Ckarkill and Upper Carkill was mentioned when I was a young boy 50 or so years ago but my memory has now been jogged by this census record. I now remember that Frederick & Frank were cousins and most likely this is the family. Frederick was my mothers father and on visits to his home I met Frank and a John Truesdale

It's great whenever you actually knew the people,in their later life, on the census record Smiley It gives you a real connection to who they were in 1911!

Sorry I made an error Frederick & Frank were brothers & John was Frederick's nephew. I remember a story when Frank was working in the forest and his 2 sons Young Frank & John were playing with an axe or tomahawk over a tree stump with John jabbing his hand over the stump & Frank pretending to chop it and of course John had most of his fingers almost severed only hanging by the skin I believe but being a very young boy his fingers survived after being stitched back.

Have you loked at this website yet Fred;

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/

it's an amazing site for County Down, a lot of Truesdale's are mentioned but it might take an age searching it all!

Yes I have looked but was unable to link any Truesdales to mine.  However since I looked at the 1911 census earlier I have traced Frank's son Francis to N.S.W. Australia where I believe his daughter still lives.

Its after midnight were I am, I got carried away with the time in my excitement of finding this info.
Many many thanks once again

i had a look at the ros davies and there is a mention of a william truesdale,died ww1, on the war memorial in castlewellan. so i had a look on the commonwealth war graves commission(cwgc) site and found this;

william truesdale,private
regiment-lancashire fusiliers,15th battlion
service number-25153
age-23
date of death-1/july/1916
son of the late ROBERT and SARAH truesdale
thiepval memorial
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=817136

so i think this william could be the brother of frederick and frank. the lancashire regiment was putting me off but then i found this from Ancestry;

william truesdale
birth place-CASTLEWELLAN,County Down
number-25153
residence-Salford,Lancs.
enlistment location-Castlewellan
d.o.d.-1/july/1916
regiment-lancs fusiliers,15th battlion
killed in action.

it all sort of fits in with the census record ie the age, address,parent's names.do you reckon this could be the brother of frederick and frank? or maybe i'm adding 2 plus 2 and getting 5?
