Townsend - Knighton
« on: Monday 14 September 09 09:00 UTC (UK) »

I am researching my Step Fathers family tree, without a lot of success.

His grandparents were  Frederick Townsend (born abt 1866 - the 1901 census says he was born in Hereford the 1911 census says Malvern - my Dad seems to think the latter is right - my Dad was born in 1927 and never met his grandfather as he was already dead - he is under the impression that his grandfather died when he was about 49 ) I cannot find any death records for Frederick, my Dad is adamant that when he died he and his wife were living in Knighton - but unfortunately the address given on the 1911 census was for Kington (which is where his wife Mary Ann was from) so I dont know where in Knighton they lived !!

I am cannot find the death of his grandmother - Fredericks wife - her name was Mary Ann Townsend (nee Lloyd) - my Dad believes that she died in Knighton in the 1930s/40s

I have searched through all the death records and cannot find either a Frederick or Mary who could be them - please can anyone help Huh?

Hi,

There is a death record in 1920 which might fit.

Jun 1920 Kingston 2a/618
Frederick Townsend age 55

Not quite what your dad says age wise but it does fit with his year of birth.

Me again - Just to say that the "Kingston" bit is in italics so I am wondering if it ought to be Kington?

Just a thought.

Hmm I remember coming across this one myself and wondering if it was the right one ...... I wonder if there is someone I can contact at Kington to see if it is the right one - it may have been that Mary Ann died in Knighton and not Frederick - as the 1911 census shows them as living in Kington !!

Thanks for your input
