Hi Shella and welcome to RootsChat
Do you know anything else? Dates of birth, middle names, children (and their dates of birth), information from any other censuses.
The more we know, the more likely we are to be able to help - and we love to help
Linda

Hello
If you have a look at Leeds HO107/2321 Folio 615 Page 18, there is a family with a William aged 27, an Elizabeth aged 28 and a child aged 4 months under the surname of Humsley.
I cannot find this family, under that surname, elsewhere. Both William and Elizabeth were from Barnsley and this might tie in with the 1861 entry found above by Jan. The child could possibly have the second name of Emily and her age might be slightly out.
The only likely marriage of a William Huntley in Yorkshire seems to have been registered in the first quarter of 1848 at Ecclesfield and one of the possible brides was an Elizabeth Lockwood.
One problem is that the occupation of William in 1851 is given as Solicitor’s Managing Clerk.

Looking at the birth indexes for Hunslet, which includes Chapel Allerton, there is a registration for a Mary Eunice Huntley in the last quarter of 1850.
She appears in 1871 with Jan’s family, in addition to Emily Jane ....
Leeds RG10/4566 Folio 129 Page 24
In 1861, Mary E Huntley is with her grandmother, Hannah Huntley, in Barnsley RG9/3444 Folio 17 Page 28

In 1851, Emily Jane is listed as Lockwood and is with her grandparents, William and Mary Lockwood at Barnsley HO107/2332 Folio 446 Page 16
All things considered, I think that this must be the correct family.

Hi Jan, Many thanks again, is there a Leed's Archive, or parish records site, I can access, which would be useful in my research. Regards shella

IGI Batch C107472 shows the following christenings at St Mary, Barnsley ....
William Huntley 4th April 1824 John Jolly Huntley 25th December 1828
Parents William Lawrence Huntley & Hannah
Hannah Huntley and her children (including John but excluding William) can be seen on the earlier censuses as follows ...
1841 Ecclesfield HO107/1325/1 Folio 11 Page 15
1851 Barnsley HO107/2332 Folio 494 Page 1 - notice that John is a Watchmaker
On the 1881 census there is a John Folly Huntley, Watchmaker. He also appears on the 1871 and 1861 censuses as John J and John F Huntley. Checking the birth indexes for his children reveals that some of them were given a middle name of Jolly.
Thus, although William never appears with Hannah and family on the censuses, his IGI entry associated with his probable brother, John Jolly Huntley (who can be associated with Hannah in 1841 and 1851) provides a viable link to suggest that this is his family.
The fact that his daughter was also living with Hannah in 1861, strengthens the case.
