Looking for family of Catherine Rooney

I am looking for where Catherine Rooney who died in Dublin in January1951 aged approx 60 yrs old, came from, who her family were, when, she married John Maguire who was born in (Scrabby) Cavan, but who also died aged approx 60 a year later in 1952.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks in anticipation.

have you found her on the 1911 census ?  the website is http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

 the census form will show a county of birth..

I did have a look but nothing came up, she would have been about 21, maybe married by then, just getting nowhere.

I had a quick look on the census to see if they were already married .. but so far no sign. There are a few possible matches for John around the right age, single & living with family in Cavan ..

do you have any clues as to when or where they married or if they lived anywhere else before Dublin ?

A search for the marriage can be carried out on the civil index at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

but with such a wide timeframe it might be difficult to find a cross-match

a few further bits and pieces for you...

The Dublin City electoral register for 1939 is available on the Dublin City library website at : http://www.dublinheritage.ie/  It may be worth looking for John and Catherine to see if they were married and living in Dublin at that time.

it might be nothing but - on the 1911 census there are are Maguires around Scrabby but no John that I see nearby of the right age, but there is a John Maguire, born Co. Cavan, of the right age, single and living in Dublin with his family - see : http://www.rootschat.com/links/073i/

I have a few Rooney's among my ancestors also - they are from near Rush in North Co. Dublin.. there has been a Catherine in a few generations but I have not traced further forward than the 1860s with them yet. At the time of Griffiths valuation (1860s) the Rooney surname was quite widespread, with Down, Dublin, Leitrim & Sligo having the greatest numbers of  for the name

She had 1 surviving child b. April 1924 in Dublin, she would have been 34 then.
Names that I have heard of as Rooneys are May and Eimer but what relation they are I don't know.
She also had a sister Mary who went to live in Saltcoats in Scotland.

John Maguires father was Bernard and mother was Annie and they lived near Phoenix Park before his marriage.

I will have a look at the sites you have mentioned.

I think the census record I linked earlier look like it could be  the correct one for John's family - parents names and county of birth seem to match. If it is him, then John and Catherine were not yet married in 1911 but presumably were married by 1924.

I had a search using these dates on the Civil index and found a possible marriage match in Dublin north city. Both Phoenix Park and Frederick Court would be in this area.

 Name: Catherine Rooney
 Registration District: Dublin North
 quarter/year : Apr - Jun 1914
 volume: 2 / page: 576

 Name: John Maguire
 (matching index details)

If this fits with the clues you have then you could order a cert from the GRO using these index details (website : www.groireland.ie) A marriage cert would give the name and occupation of Catherine's father - which should make it possible to find him on the 1911 census - hopefully with Catherine still living at home.

Still waiting for the marriage certificate as I read from another post you said there was a delay at the GRO office, 5-6 weeks.

It has been mentioned recently by a family member that Catherine may have come from Waterford, but knowledge of the Rooney's is very vague.

Recieved the Marriage Certificate yesterday:

19th May 1914: Church of St Paul RC, North Dublin
Catherine Rooney, full age, (no occ) 66 North King Street, Dublin, Father: Christopher Rooney, Grocer.

John Maguire, full age, Driver, 8 Frederick Court, Dublin, Father: Bernard Maguire, Driver.

Witnesses: Robert Jones, Mary Rooney.

So any help to find their families would be much appreciated and is St Paul's still an open church.

from the details on the marriage cert - this looks like the Maguire family at  8 Frederick Court, John is living with his parent Bernard and Annie :

(edit : I've just noticed that is the same Maguire family we looked at a few weeks ago...)

The Rooney's are not living at 66 North King street in 1911 - there's a Doyle family at that address. I have a further look and see if I can find them...

Much appreciated Shane, I know her family didn't approve of her choice of husband so maybe she was in lodgings, but she has no occupation of her marriage cert, so how did she live.

I'm sure the Mary Rooney, is her sister, I have been told she went to live in Scotland.

If her father was a Grocer is there some kind of directory of business's, nothing to say it was in Dublin though, as I said before Waterford was mentioned regarding her family.

No sign of Christopher so far ...I've checked the grocers in Thom's Directory (Dublin) 1914 - there's no Christopher Rooney listed

The only Rooney grocer I found so far is

5a Infirmary road,  Thomas Rooney, family grocer and provision dealer 
   res : Parkview house

as you said he could be from somewhere outside Dublin, or may not be alive in 1911 or 1914..
