how certain are you about Anne's maiden name .. do you have a birth cert for John ?
the reason I ask is that I checked for a cross match to the Bernard Maguire marriage listed in Cavan around the correct time in the index and it appears to link to an Anne Magoveran..

maybe a birth cert for one of the family would help confirm the name.. I'd usually try first to locate a cert for the youngest child, as their age is generally the most accurate. Julia aged 11 on the census return mentioned earlier seems the best candidate - and there's only 1 good match for her in the index :

Thanks Shane that's a good idea, is there still a 5/6 week delay at the GRO office?..

I'd still say it's a good idea to try to obtain a birth cert for one of the children.
do you know what sort of document your relative has ? ... if it's a birth or marriage cert it may contain other information that would be useful to your search.
I had another look through the marriages in Cavan, also Laois and Dublin to see if there is any there any marriage matches we missed - and see nothing new. There is a marriage of a Mary Ann Collins in Cavan around the about the right year, but I cant find a cross match to anyone named Bernard.
p.s. it may be worth ordering the Bernard Maguire marriage cert mentioned earlier to check the brides' name. It's possible that there was some kind of index error, or other possible connections on the register page besides the Anne Magoveran I found.
